It's not worth it now unless you wanna go to Harras or Treasure Chest (the casinos) Of course they weren't out of business long

The best food was in the "hole in the wall" places and most of them are still not there

Vasquez is a perfect example of a hole in the wall that was right by University Of New Orleans (on Franklin Ave) that looks like it was looted and is still not open 1 year and 2 months after Katrina

Camilla Grill which was probably the number 1 uptown eating spot in NO also seems to be closed. I passed by and it's a huge house on St Charles and it was closed as I drove by but did not investigate further
bywater bbq, lapeniche, elizabeths, jack dempsey's, the joint, schiro's, feelings cafe, santa fe, mona lisa, snug harbor.....all back (and been back) in business in bywater/marigny (AKA upper ninth ward). of course, this part of town, close to the river, did not flood.

the Grand Damme of all new orlean's restaurants, commander's palace, re-opened last week!!

there are still plenty of excellent, low to moderate priced restaurants around to challenge your diet with.

The Camilia Grill? Damn. My favorite was the "Cannibal's Delight". Burger served tartare, with russian dressing.

I'm glad that Commander's opened back up. The guy in my avatar said that was his favorite place to eat. Also the rib room was another

Snug Harbor opening back up is a great thing because this means Allen Touissant (the guy in my avatar) and John Mahoney (trombone professor @ Loyola) now have night jobs... Great music there

I also saw that Pascal Manale is opened back up. This is also a good thing.

The best steak in town (IMHO) was Charlies Steak House on Napolean St and I did not see that open
yes, truly an excellent place.

i dunno if they r open yet as they are not in my area of town (marigny/bywater).

i had a VERY good "surf 'n turf" (steak and shrimp) platter at jack dempsey's on poland avenue and the river last saturday.
