Sprinting...

Just curious... would it be okay to do sprints to failure (either breath, or muscle fatigue) then wait like 2 minutes to recover, then sprint again. I did this theother night, four times. It was sort of like a pyramid, the distance I was able to sprint decreased each time. I do it on winding, rough-terrain bike trails... it's kind of hard to measure the distance.

i think that increases endurance. i used to be on a track team and what i would do is a lap and when i get to the turns sprint through them but keep running at a normal speed/jog through the straight aways. that helped my endurance but it takes practice.

think about your CNS, don't do it every session.
me thinks you will be overtrained in a weeks time :)

I normally sprint a set distance, then wait for full recovery, and then repeat. Just like say squats, people who wait for full recovery - CNS and energy systems - gain more strength than those who try to fatigue themselves as much as they can by using short rest periods and going to failure

Ah, going to failure is bad? By the way, I never understood why you would use a higher weight then, with any exercise. It always baffled me. The higher the weight, the quicker you'd fatigue, right?

Either ways, I have 2 minutes rest periods with sprints, and sprint until I'm exhausted. Should I just sprint full-on, hardcore a set distance, and rest 3 minutes instead to up my strength? I want to up speed too, I wanna be able to just like, bolt after someone. My friend can't catch me now, but he gets close, and I just love fuckin' wit him. I wanna be like "Whoosh" gone. ;)

Sprinting is different because when you go all out, its 100% intensity :)

As you get "fitter" the distance and time you can run flatout will get longer. You will also push your body and CNS harder.
So the faster you get, the more "damage" you do to your body when you go flat out.

Its ok right now, because you can't fire on all 12 cyclinders just yet.
