Showing anger when you spank will teach them to hit when they are mad. Easier said than done. My mother has been a foster parent for 20 years or so. Bruising that last 24 hrs or longer generally qualify as abuse. But the laws may have changed in the 11 years since I lived at home.

I dont believe that. Spanking them when they are bad will teach them that there are consequences for their actions and keep them from going to jail

I have at least 2

i have three. . .they all get smacked on the bum from time-to-time. . .children have very short attention spans and a smack on the bum very quickly lets them know, in no uncertain terms, that they have done something wrong and there are consequences for their actions. . .time out is bullshit imho. . .my kids would think about what they did wrong for about two seconds then something else would get their attention and that would be the end of it. . .

imho. . .sticking them in their room, by themselves, not allowing them to have any contact with anyone and ignoring them while they "think about what they did wrong" is abuse. . .plus it's absentee parenting. . .smack'em in the bum, tell them what they did wrong and let them get on with their lives. . .

abuse is torture (mental or physical). . .a smack on the bum is not torture, therefore it is not abuse. . .it's merely a clear and concise corrective action. . .

Beating would be causing extreme bodily harm like choking, whipping leaving beat marks.

Spanking - what i recived would be enough to make me cry. up till i was like 12 but we never got spanked on the ass..

Dad- slap on the face

Mom her slaps were weak so she would use a wooden spoon or coat hanger.

It wasnt like timed spankins.

I was spanked ; but only when I disobeyed instructions that were there for my safety , running in the street, not looking both ways, talking to strangers, not listening to my mom when she told me to stay away from the oven, etc.

I believe in spanking, I think the difference is pain to control vs pain to love and teach.
