It's a beautiful tank and set up. Maybe you can answer a question, as I am a relative novice aquarist. I've got a wicked algae problem that I can't solve. I'm certain that the issue is too much direct light, but my house has a good number of windows and skylights. Short of keeping the tank in the closet, I'm stumped. I've tried chemicals, sucker fish, cleaning every two weeks ... nothing stays on top of it. Any thoughts?

I'm not a pro by any means, as this is my first aquarium, so I haven't had to deal with any algae problems as of yet. Light is most likely the problem. It would be best to keep the tank away from direct sunlight. What kind of plec (sucker fish) did you get? Some aren't algae eaters at all yet are sold as such. Others don't eat ALL kinds of algae. I'm told that the bristlenose plec is an excellent algae eater, though he is kind of ugly.

You might find some info in this article, though I haven't read it myself because I haven't had any algae problems yet. =)

Looks good, I just loaded my tank with tiger barbs, but I got some live plants and driftwood. Gives it a natural look.

I wanted to get live plants for mine but thought it would be too complicated to start since I was only a beginner. For my next tank I'd like to go all out - big tank, full hood/cover, live plants, driftwood, real rocks, etc... I'm thinking of a 120 gallon cichild tank. I'm sure it will price out to over $1,000, though. yike =(

Scout the classified ads in your area. i live in tennessee and see used 55 gallon tanks for around $75-150, accessories included, some schmuck cant keep their fish alive or they just plain want rid of the aquarium. anything bigger than 55 gal. is rare in the classifieds, sometimes a 70 gallon, sometimes a 120 gallon, but very rarely... i have a 55 that has supported many breeds of fish for 9 years now and is still in perfect condition. shop around and get a good price if your sticking with freshwater.

If you like cichilds, check out some about oscars, I know they are very common but i think they make great starter cichlids, all the ones i have known will eat from your fingers and swim to the surface when people come close to the tanks.

Nice stuff bro. I'm considering sea horses along with some other fishes on one half of my aquarium and 2 little sharks on the other. For the moment I'm just saving money since it will cost me about 4000$ for that, but thats an old dream.

Nice looking tank bro.. I had a reef tank going for about a year, but it took too much work to keep it looking nice.. With those VHO lights, you get plenty of algea no matter what in the fuck you do..

Nice looking tanks. If you can swing the money a 120 is definitely worth it. Checking out the classifieds is great advice, you would be surprised what you can find in regards to aquariums.

I currently have a 29 and a 75 setup, I am thinking about changing the 75 over to a saltwater. If the saltwater works out I may make the 29 a saltwater Mantis Shrimp tank- interesting little creatures.
