No my dear, the MICRO approach is what makes America such a strong country and the best nation in the world despite the Macro political issues that piss off ethnic groups.
My current best friend is Spongebob, but he lives in Texan, and I usually write on bathroom walls, "here I sit, my butt's a flexin', giving birth to another texan" Some of my best friends come from Texas, my best friend where Im at is Pakistani, but coworkers, a close dear friend is a redhead, but others are all different colors and nationalities. In medicine, it makes no difference Macro, who you are, its all Micro. My most interesting patients are old people or immigrants b/c they tell me about where they came from, where's the best place in their country. Why they moved here, why they think this is the best place in the world. Then you have some white kid with liberal guilt that hates the US. Imran, my best friend from pakistan was in Kuwait when Saddam invaded, his parents live there. These people are as real as you and I and they want freedom. Hearing his stories of fleeing to Turkey and his uncle fleeing back to pakistan and all of this shit makes you realize that the US is no longer a place with huge walls. We live in an International community, you have selfish fucks saying that we are fucking the US people b/c we want people to be free from tyranny.Well guess what? They may just be your neighbor that you liberated in the future, or your coworker. I cant tell you how many Indian friends I have, great people!

lol you jagoff!!

but yea the micro approach always breaks down barriers. ive hardly ever met a person i didnt like once you get to know each other and find that you have a lot more basic similarities than differences.

That I completely understand. Yes, the U.S. is an international community. How come people fail to understand this?

Predominance of blacks in sports...

... Economic status, social status, demographic profile, geographic profile.

(We'll pretend I wrote a whole bunch of crap in the middle connecting those two sentence fragments.)

Also, arguing that blacks are just better, or genetically better, than whites in sports is just as absurd as arguing whites are just better, or genetically better, than blacks in academics/science/areas involving intelligence.

So what I'm seeing is this:

(I'm assuming these are being argued isometric:
*blacks are superior to whites in sports*
*blacks are dominant in sports over whites*)

*blacks are dominant in sports over whites*
*blacks are not dominant over whites in hocky, soccer, baseball, etc.*
*hocky, soccer, baseball, etc. are sports*

Therefore, assuming the latter two premises valid, we can infer the following conclusions:

1) The first premise, *blacks are dominant in sports over whites*, is incorrect, also meaning, equivilantly, *blacks are not dominant in sports over whites*,

or

2) Alter the first premist of the argument to something along the lines of
*blacks are dominant in some sports over whites*
*blacks are dominant in many sports over whites*
*blacks are largely dominant in sports over whites*

and try to infer something that doesn't matter, since it's being assumed that the first premise is correct.

And being that we're arguing something as grandiloquent as genetic superiority, any alteration of the first premise would only be begging the question.

XOXO

Much too short of a time span to use evolutionary processes as an explanation. Given many thousands of years of conditioning, likely, but not the wink of time as suggested. Predisposed genetics, and politics are your likely answers for the elite black athlete, and mogul jew. Not evolution.

I think its just a matter of age and life experience, coming from large metropolitan cities means that you are much more educated, ie exposed to different cultures and seeing the best of the best that they have to offer. I mean, you can go to an ethnic restaurant without thinking, just a daily choice for us. Or talk to these people and realize they are just good people, overwhelmingly they are optimistic and hardworkers. We interact with the best of the best of almost every culture. When I ride the train to commute, it looks like the United Nations b/c of the technological community with Intel, Microsoft and Nike and other campuses here in Beaverton Or and Portland, They import these brainiacs and its like amazing to interact with. Chinese, Japanese, turn around and look at these.
No, its inevitable, we live in a global society, borders mean little, its if you can get the job done, especially in the US.
Dont be discouraged, the issues will play out as you grow even wiser with age. You are enlightened, it may take some time for the world to catch up with us.

yea i agree, genetics and to some degree environment. that about sums it up alright next topic: why do women score lower than thier male counterparts in mathmatics and the sciences.

discuss.

That's more up my alley. I had tonnes of publications from the College Board last semster and came across this pretty often.

- No big hidden variables, just stuff like upbringing, position of female in society, position in academic environment (effecting class participation, mood in class/school/genera,), relevancy of female in sciences/math, etc. Nothing I read had any big disagreement over the majority of factors, or where they came from.

-With the introduction last year of The New SAT (now score's out of 2400 vs. 1600, also with a new analytical writing section), The College Board hopes to close the performance gap between males and females in math and science, and overal in general. There was also some huge flamefest with, shoot, I think it was the UC system president, where she threatened CB to pull the entire Cali university system out of requiring SAT scores for admissions. Pretty funny read, lol.

in regards to the original post, i think that while there is some merit to the idea that some additional natural selection was applied to slaves going to america, in the form of hard physical labour, poor conditions, and the bias of the slavetrader/owners, i think that the theory falls on its arse because it doesnt take into account various cultural forces that manifest in the overall caractreistics of any race/social group

now first and foremost, i would question the idea that blacks dominate in sport. sure, there are some high profile black sprinters, basketball players etc etc etc, but i would like to see some statistics before asserting that they 'dominate' in sport. i think it is fair to say that many successful black athletes are very marketable, and perhaps over-represent their demographic, or, going back to the cultural aspects touched on earlier, that american culture, at present, currently values sports that black athletes excel in very highly, thereby furthering the over-representation of black athletecism.

you could focus on other angles as well - socioeconomics being important. to generalise (just to make a point, everyone get a grain of salt out please), wealthier parents generally push their children into study more than athletics, effectively hamstringing their children from an athletic viewpoint by diverting their time/interest. we could (if we wanted to) assert that black people a generation ago (whose children are only now coming to athletic fruition) were more likely to fall within a poorer socioeconomic class and thereby have this athletic advantage. then, coupled with americas taste in the sports in which these athletes are likely to excel, we have a situation in which our present "black sports domination" stereotype can come to light.

something that noone has yet said is that, at the end of the day, slavery has existed for millenia. take a look at the turks, who for a period easily equivalent to that spanning black american slavery, would take the strongest male children from a number of races (greeks/macedons/romanians/some germaic races) to form the core of their fighting force (known as the janissaries). surely the natural selection imposed on this group of people, in the form of byzantine warfare and hand to hand combat, would have exerted teh same (or greater) selective pressure as the (mere) field work done by black slaves - and, despite this period of slavery ending only 200 or so years ago, we have not seen a turkish parallel to the current "black sports domination" spoken about in this thread (even though other factors may come in, such as inability or lack of opportunity for these warrior slaves to breed, or that the best of them were killed before they could, or that they did so, but were assimilated and absorbed by the current living turkish population)...or the fact that there was no opportunity for turks (post and present) to show their true mettle, given the lack of an equivalent to american cable tv.

soooooo, i would think that any logical, rational person would say, in regards to the original post, that the idea of black sports domination, IF actually true and not a result of an over representation of black athletes or some silly white inferiority complex giving rise to such perverse thinking, is in fact a multifactorial phenomenon that cannot be simply attributed to the selective pressure constituted by a mere 4 or so centuries of slavery, particularly when viewed in the context of equivalent (or greater) selective pressures experienced by many other peoples throughtout history, that have not resulted in the creation of a 'super race'

besides, we all know that the selective pressure applied to greeks throughout their tumultuous history already resulted in a scarce, yet superbly developed number of humans who may be seen as several cuts above the norm, perhaps to the level of super-humanism, since....i mean....theres me ;)

I'm only 27 and I'm already frustrated. Part of me wants to give up, pack my stuff and leave this country. Probably go to France, ala Josephine Baker.

Despite being raised in such a diverse city, experiencing different things at such an early age, dating men and having a friends of different cultures and races, I feel like I have lived in a bubble most of my life. I left NYC and I started posting here, and I'm like WTF?? I feel like I'm the naive & uneducated one.

Damn Golden, you're the only one in 100 posts who has chosen to look at the original question and not just try to bash ''generalizations.''

Bravo and well stated.

You and redguru are the only two people who have chosen to adress hammy's questions and not just ignore them, citing intellectual superiority.

lol, or sip coffee in a south american cafe and talk about a communist revolution ala, I forget her name lol
No, you should leave, I am going to move as well here in short order as soon as I can arrange it professionally with licensing.
The world is an oyster my dear and you are a pearl! Go out and live, its stagnant here, expose yourself to a whole new way of thinking, country and history. Leave these innane arguments and conversations behind, they are just a function of the US. You dont go to another country and hear them argue that slavery is why black athletes are so great. Theyd cringe at that type of moronicism. Think about, a whole new way of thinking, popular b/c you are something new and exciting and believe it or not. As much as the world likes to put down the US, they are deep down envious and ever curious to it. You'll be a superstar, now get out of my country darkie lolol, jk!!!
Im with you, we'll have tea in China someday
