So my father passed away...family issues with brother.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. It doesn't help when you have a bunch of other things happening on top of the loss. I went thru something very close to this three years ago and I know it is hard. Good luck.

I got the word today my mom is not bad enough to go to a home, yet anyway. The are going to do some neuro tests on her.

I guess I'll look at fixed income securities and fixing up the house and see which one is the best financial choice.

Take into consideration that most times people are forcibly placed in a home it's because they are really really really bad, as per your description she does need care and she probably wont get that with your brother so you may want to look into a home on your own, it's good to do it this way and not forcibly, otherwise you will constantly wonder how she is doing.

or, you can look into a personal care attendent

I actually worked as one for about a year and a half for about 12 hrs a week

you can contract one for 1 hr a day to 12 hrs a day
if theyre through an agency they have backround checks etc you can request to see and inquire as to their experience..some have a shocking amount of experience and really give a shit...others will rob you blind

I vote for evicting your brother personally...but then, I have zero ties when one family member abuses another

I would evict him if I didn't need him. He does serve a purpose right now. I just too make sure my leash and taser is ready when he gets out of line.

After reading nan's and your post I am going to look into a care home. Once her neuro tests come back they may decide to throw her in a home so I shall see.

She will have supervision by Adult Protective Services. The state rep I talked to up there is great.

My brother is already not telling me everything which pisses me off.

Dementia itself is hard MS on top of it is just awful what tests is she getting, actual device testing (PET, SPET) or human/battery testing (mini mental and other neuropsyc tests) ?

I have no idea. The social services rep told me she had follow up appointments. My brother didn't. That is the mess I am in.
