Sleeping on the floor

Hello All,

I have rented an apartment for 8 weeks before I move to another city. Its just that one lease was up and the other doesn't start till Sept. So, got a place inbetween. Now, the problem is that the mattress is a joke. Its way too soft and has definitely affected my back in that it feels weaker. This has been obvious in the gym this week and have taken a few days off now to get rested and strengthened up again.

In order to maintain my strength, should I sleep on the bed base or better again, but a thick duvet on the floor and sleep on that.

Choice C is to buy one a mattress for the 8 weeks, but that involves the thoughts of parting with my hard earned cash!!! I may have no other choice!

I can tell you right now that unless your back is properly rested on a good even bed, it will affect the blood flow throughout the night and leave you sore in the morning. Your back won't get rested at all. This will weaken your back in general and you will suffer in the gym from no rest.

riverrock, your an experienced Bro and this is a stupid post. Its stupid because you know your stuff and shouldn't have to ask questions like this.

What are you trying to say!

Well, the problem is that I have told the landlord, but his attitude is "buy your own if you don't like the one thats there". I'll buy one tomorrow.

Just want to know if sleeping on the floor is okay, or does it make things worse. Thats my sole question.

When I've slept on the floor, it's been crappy for a couple of nights and then I've settled into it with no further hassles.

Have you used it for a specific recovery purpose? Some people use it for a few nights after injuring their Back. My old man swore by it. then again, my old man did alot of swearing!!!!!

Thats the thing, I have to drive right across England. Imagine trying to fit that thing into the car. LOL!!!

I think I'll buy one anyhow. No way is the landlord getting it after either. My GF's brother told me he'll buy it off me, so I'll sell it on. He was totally drunk when he said it, but I'll keep him to his word anyhow!

I have a chronic bad lower back. It's not so bad these days but it's never been troubled by sleeping on the floor. I have switched to the floor in the past when my back has acted up and it's helped. Obviously it's more comfy on a mattress but you get used to the floor quickly enough and I've never noticed that I've suffered from sleeping on the floor.

Mostly I've used the floor when we've had my wife's (large) family over for extended visits and I get relegated to sleeping on my work-room floor. I'm too nice to them.

I slept on the floor for a couple of weeks and I felt it improved my back notably. I just folded a thick comforter, laid down and slept better than ever.
BTW it was a hardwood floor

I slept on one of those Aerobeds for about a week when I was in the process of moving.

Pretty convenient and you can adjust the firmness (read: inflate it); not quite as good as a bed, but it was serviceable.

Plus you can just deflate it and roll it up like a sleeping bag. And if you have a Costco nearby you can return it after you move

Rip the bedroom door off and put it between the mattressess to add some support. Don't sleep on the floor. I did that a couple of times when I moved into my old place many years ago. My body ached all over the next morning. Plus, the cold air at floor level and the dust and molds in the carpets are not good for your health.

Alternative, is to get a girlfriend and sleep on top of her. :D Great for your back and everything else too.

8 weeks is nothing

ive slept in hostels for that long

i suggest buying a cheap air matress for now then getting a firm pillowtop when you move

If you really want to save money, buy an air mattress or a couple of the self-inflating air mattresses that back-packers use and then sleep on the floor. I use 2 of the self-inflators when back-packing or when I sleep in my truck. They work fine.

Occasionally when I have to crash somewhere, I will voluntarily sleep on the floor. I do this because I feel like a million bucks in the morning, seriously. I must be the exception.
