simmering hatred for the majority

I just realized that in all my years working in corporate America, all my university education, living in the suburbs, dealing with capitalism, making money, etc.

I understand the terrorists.

I don't like what they did. I don't condone what they did. I feel great sorrow for the victims.

However....my own deep, seemingly irrational anger has come out to me on this board in heaps.

As a person of color, living in America, I'm angry all the time.

Weight training has helped manage this anger.

But I still feel it. I have reaped the benefits of this society, as the terrorists have.

I have taken advantage of the opportunities. I blame no one for my own situation...I am successful by my own definition.

But I hurt deeply for the marginalized people in this country.

A cab driver from Somalia said to me: "you Americans think you are so great...but the ones in great fear that ride in my cab are the white businessmen. The blacks, latinos, chinese, etc., have fear, but not nearly as much as the white men."

Why? Because white men in power have exacted their hypocrisy on people of color for centuries.

I don't hate. I would never commit an act of terrorism. But I understand how one could live somewhere with boiling anger and finally exact revenge.

And I haven't even been bombed.

And how did you get your "perfect degree, from the perfect University". Yes, you probably studied very hard to earn the degree, but who paid your tution? Or did you get a "free ride" due to the fact that you are a minority?

All I am reading here is a self-pity thread. You are responsible for your own words and actions, and saying that they are the result of others, that may be different than yourself, is pure ignorance!

I have a suggestion for you, strongchick---You wont be happy anywhere. No matter where you go you will find something about the people there, the government's corruption, or injustice of the past----to make you hate and dispize the very place you go and the people that live there.

People such as yourself who speak of so many negative aspects concerning the greatest nation on earth-----there is no place for you. You are a pecimist.

I know a lot of 'people of color' that would be ashamed of you. YOu wont let the past die---it conjures in your soul. So as long as the past wont be forgotten, the present will remain as it is for you, unsettled and bitter.

It is very troubling to witness the viewpoint of someone like yourself. Someone who cannot recognize integrity and quality leadership in a president.

I got $2000 music scholarship for 4 years at a $20,000/year university.

My family was 'assimilated' so we were middle class, so I got maybe $2000 in grants.

I got a loan and I worked in a retail appliance store, selling stuff. Learning how you people think so I could get them to buy stuff from me...I was the best damn salesperson in the region at 19.

fuck affirmative action. Just gives hicks an excuse to hate us.

That is what my high school English teacher told me, because my parents forced them to take me into his honors English class...even though my test scores were exceptional and qualified, I was from a city public school and they wouldn't let me into the honors program without a fight.

I've been fighting all my life in this 'free' society.

I know a lot of people of color who agree with me...they are in government, in science, have PhD's, own major businesses.

They are angry because they played the game even better than I and still haven't been able to effectively help others learn the game because our country is strange like that.
