Shoulder Pain

Lucky

New member
I have a shoulder impingement in the rotator cuff area. Now I know I have to rehabilitate the area with rotator cuff stretching and exercise, but do I take some time off to let the inflammation go away or do I start right now and work through the pain until it's gone. After x-rays and arm movement with my doctor and doesn't feel there is a tear.

Daily ibubrofen(sp) and take a week or two off if it really is bothering you.

i am currently in rehab for a rotator cuff inpingment injury :(

I waited till the main inflammation had gone down but then i started doing some light strength training exercises and trying to increase its ROM.

I beleive that there will be a little pain in the rehab but that is normal just as long as there isnt alot of pain.

Good luck, hope it comes along nicely.

(Also dont rush the exercises. Start light stay farely light) Nothing over 3-5 kgs i was told by physio. Rotator just needs to be conditioned, not big.

Been down that road too and it's not fun sometimes. I'd tend to agree with the ibuprofen(Advil), that helped me out a lot. Definitely take a little time off if it's really bugging you. You'll end up doing more damage if you push yourself too much, again speaking from experience here. Definitely start light with your exercises and listen to your body.
Good luck and take care.

Okay guys, I know I have covered this dozens of times in the past but I will do it again since a lot of people have apparently not seen my advice in the past, take it or leave, its up to you.

Before you run to the medicine cabinet and start popping pills I suggest you do a little homework. The reason I say this is because ibuprofin (anti-inflataories in general) DO NOT FIX a damn thing. What they do do however is reduce inflamation and the pain. Now im sure your sitting there saying hey that sounds great and exactly what I want, but let me take a minute and explain to you the error in that logic.

You may or may not remember back to jr high biology class when you covered the various aspects of healing and what actions took place so I will breifly cover them again. Inflamation is ESSENTIAL in the healing process. It increases blood flow and causes the accumulation of certian factors that are responsible for healing and repairing damaged tissues. Callogen has a normal turnover rate of 300-500 days but under certian circumstances like unjury that turnover rate is greatly reduced. However if you start using ice and popping anti-inflamatories you inhibit the inflamation and in turn ,uch if not all of the healing that should normally occure. You will sacrifice comfort for healing. If your concerned with long term joint health deal with the pain(or use tylenol instead) and let the body heal, if you dont you put yourself at risk of future injuries since the joint will be in a weakened state for much longer than normal and in bad cases where an injury is not allowed to heal the body will actually build up bone tissue to resolve the joint laxity created by stretched tendons/ligament and you will end up with arthritis.

I think I have a shoulder inpingement also, but it hurts less the heavier I go. The warm-up weight and my first few lighter sets of my pyramid hurt my shoulder more than when I go to heavy and lower reps say 5-6. It hurts when I sleep on it wrong though but not when I train heavy. Is this normal?

does anyone know the type of doctor that helps heal you will something like a deep tissue massage. i hear this is a good avenue
