I like this thread. But my question to you is you dont want ppl saying I want to compete and this and that and if they do they need to do well. What if you havent competed before how would you know how you are going to do? Are you saying you should train naturally first to see how you would do?
I think another thing to add is you should be able to hit those lifts with proper form. Form is so key. I see other guys at the gym barely doing more weight than me and they are herky jerky and looking ridiculous. I think its very important and I agree you should eat clean and big and learn how to grow and learn how to get really strong naturally first.
I myself would like to plan on using gear but I think I am going to wait until I compete naturally in another year or 2 and I want to see if I can hit the 200lb mark off season first natty.
I hope I didnt miss the point of this thread lol.
I train in a proper old school BBing gym. If I had a pound for every lad I heard say "I want to compete" I would be RICH.
What I mean by the compete like "I want a pony" is that there have been some SERIOUS hardgainers in my gym who have taken an OBSCENE amount of gear in order to compete in the UKBFF (IFBB in the UK). There is NO WAY they would ever have the physique that would have them ever do well in the IFBB, complete pipe dream, and in the meantime, they are messing majorly with their body.
SO few people make ANY kind of money from this sport, it is more a labour of LOVE. You do have to be REALLY realistic with yourself about what you will get from competing.
There are other federations that they could have a go in, without all the drugs.
I do think training naturally, and going through the whole comp diet thing is actually REALLY anabolic on its own.
My coach is fantastic, she has competed at Olympia, she competed for nearly 13 years, and had a very successful career. 13 years on and she is still one of the favourite female bodybuilders in the UK.
She also told me ALL the horror stories about gear. She also told me 'gear won't get you anywhere'. She also told me that female bodybuilding, as in the IFBB, is just not 'marketable' anymore. Natural female muscle, figure girls are.
As much as I hate to admit it, she is ALWAYS right.
I just find it ironic in the quest to create that beautiful physique
1. you may not be able to use it for what most men want to get a great set of arms for (SEX)
2. you may not keep the gains that you have stressed your body for
3. you may never learn how to diet and train properly if you rely on the drugs to do it
