Samples?

I'm sure this is probably a stupid question but how do you get a sample before you buy? I also didn't realize that scamming was such a big industry until I started reading these boards....please excuse my ignorance!!! I'm just getting started.

Also.....can you tell me where to find the definitions for the icons next to the discussion questions (ex. folder, red folder, burning folder,burning red folder)

I'm not looking for a source...just want to know if it is standard to ask for a sample before you make a big purchase...if you can even ask for a sample...so you can test it......or if getting a sample would even matter.

haha, non of the sources who are around for quite some time will send out free samples and or fronts to complete strangers.
