Rotator Cuff injury prevention - before or after main workout?

Alright, so I have finally started doing the rotator cuff exercises to prevent an injury in the future. I have had a shoulder injury before, so don't want it to happen again, as it sucked. Now, the instructions I have read said to do it PRIOR to your main weightlifting workout. I do the west side barbell routine, and thinking that if you do the rotator cuff exercises before the main workout, then your shoulders will become weaker, and the rotating muscles may actually fail while maxing out? Or may limit your lifting potential during the benching workout? Wouldn't it be a better idea to do it after the main workout, as part of your shoulder routine?

Any thoughts?
 
I usually do my first one or two warm-up sets then do some light (5lb) rotator exercises (side outs and cleans). I have found that I actually lift better this way and my shoulders don't hurt afterwards. I had a rotator injury several years ago but since starting the rotator warm-ups haven't had any more problems.

I'll give it a try. My right shoulder's a mess. It even aches at rest.

I think my rotator cuffs are bust too, perhaps repairing. What can I do? I've had 4 weeks off and they felt better, but when I went back to the gym I can feel them going back to their old ways...
 
Definately before your workout.
