Reverse Band Sumo D/L 405!

Thanks all, it's a big PR for me.

Reverse Band DL's are the best - you work on speed at the bottom and lockout at the top in the same movement.

I really feel those in the hamstrings.

Please explain the purpose of this assisted lift. I understand using bands with my bench to increase the resistance at the top, where I have better leverage, in order to carry over a better lockout with a suit. But it seems to me that this just helps with the normal sumo sticking point. (Perhaps the same as using a suit?) How will this improve your lift? If you have a lockout issue, aren't partial rack deadlifts the way to go? Again, I really want to know if this exercise has helped anyone with their deadlift!

I think it's better than rack lockouts because you are in the same groove as your regular dead.

Spatts or Liftbig or could probably explain this better than me.

i couldnt tell for sure by the vid, but can you go wider on the stance???

Only if I built one of those platforms that I could put in the power rack. The bottom of the power rack prevents me from going wider.

I agree with Rojas. I prefer these to rack deads because rack deads seem to place me in an unnatural position. It also makes it very difficult to pull sumo when you're doing rack pulls 'cause the pins are in your way.

I use this move for speed and lockout. It trains you to use your speed because if you pull fast enough, you can blow right through the sticking point where the bands let off....because the bands let off at about the knee, you have to have the back/hip strength to lock that sucker out. It's great for training the lockout.

I also see more carry over from this move to my 1RM pull than any other move. This move is almost always 50 pounds more than what I can pull. My goal in training for this next meet is to do a 550 reverse band dead, then I will be comfortable knowing I can pull a 500 dead.

I rig mine up blue band and shoulder height too. Seems to let off right about at the knee. :)

Thanks spatts, I knew you could explain it better than me :).

Fifty pound carry over sounds about right for me, too.

Spatts, thanks for your response. But you say that a pair of blue bands only adds 50lbs?! Or did you mean (blue) minibands?

At the very bottom the bands make the weight about 100 pounds lighter. So for me, it's like I started with 300 pounds - by the time I got to knee level the band tension was gone. So from knees to lockout was 405. Does that make sense?

The bar starts light, but gets heavy pretty quickly.

I see...but I thought that the blue (strong) bands add, or in this case subtract, about 100lbs each. (At least according to the elitefts shop site; I just have the minis for benching so far.) So wouldn't two of them reduce the initial weight by 200lbs, or are they not stretched that tight?

I think the 200 lb tension is if they are stretched 6 feet. In my setup a 135 pound barbell sorta floats at the bottom.

Ahhh, now I see the whole situation. Thanks for answering my questions.

I wasn't referring to band tension. I was just commenting on how my revband dead numbers usually stack up against my meet numbers.

I have no idea what the tension is, as long as it gives out at the knee, I don't really pay much attention to it beyond that. It's not "speed work," per se, so I never tried to calculate it. It almost functions more as a weight releasing mechanism in this move.
