Remote start systems

No u dnt leave a key in it u just push a button on the remote an it fires up and the a/c kicks on an gets it nice n cool so when u jump in ur all comfy (pimp shit)

When u get in u put ur key in an u can drive off, someone else jumps in the car dies out as soon as u step on the brake...

My 66 Chevys got it ;)

Technically you don't have to leave the key in. However they will have a master key mounted in the control box under the dash. So if someone who knows about remote starter systems jumps in and sees the car running with no key in the switch the first thing they will do is reach under the dash, pull out the control box and swipe the master key that goes in the ignition and drive off anyway.

But the safety feature is that you have to put the key in the slot, turn it twice, but not to CRANK, and then press the brake to engage the transmission. If you press the brake without the key being in there, it will cut off.

I just had one installed last weekend.

what kind of janky ass system did you get?

I've never seen one w/a "master" key mounted in a box under the dash. LMFAO.

it depends on the car and also the installer, alot of newer cars have a chip in the key so someone cant just coppy your key an steal your car....the easy way to bypass it is to just have a spare key mounted underneath somewere...some installers wont have to do that, some cars are easier to bypass than otheres

I can also be done without using the "key", just the chip...the bipass thingy

remote starters for all my cars....some were cheaper systems than others...depended how sophisticated the ignition system or factory alarm was

You don't use a key at all. You just have to have the remote on you. I keep mine in my purse all the time. It's nice not having to pull your keys out.

I got the Viper.

But if you have an encoded chip like Mercedes or Chrylser, you got to have the master key installed below too. No other way around it.

those new keys aren't cheap either.

Nope. Now you see why the factory (Mercedes) charges more for the same remote starter system. Because they create a new key first. So you don't have to use your spare.

But this thing is so nice. I got it for christmas last year and just now got around to having it installed. Wish I hadn't waited. Fire that sucker up and when I get in the car the inside is nice and cool.

Yeah, I have a mercedes, but it's always in a garage so no need really for the remote start.

my buddy had one put into his 5speed truck at circuit city when they were still around. the installer went to get him after it was done so he can press the remote button to fire it up. the idiot left it in gear and when he pressed the button it started up and slammed into the side of the building. i've never laughed so hard!!!

Wow u would think a place like circuit city would know better than to do a install like that on a car with a Manuel transmision.... Glad he didn't plow over a lil kid!

They make kits for manual transmission vehicles, but there is supposed to be a safety switch so that if it is left in gear it will not start.

:^^^^ hmmm I didn't know that...well only a moron would install one without that kit. Glad it ended in a lauph tho:worried:

this is why you lock your car.

Yup cuz once your cars locked it's imposible to get in... Speacially for a car theif lol

jus messin with u ;)
well if i was a car thief and i saw a locked running vehicle, i'd assume someone was going to be there pretty quick and i wouldn't try to jack it. then again you don't exactly have to be smart to be a criminal.

No key chris. And if you have an iphone you can download the app to lock/unlock and start your car from the phone. Best thing to do is ask an installer.
