Quick car question... Oil Change.

Ok, I was told to go in every 5000 miles to get the oil changed. I'm now at 10,050... and planning on going in this coming week. BUT I just looked at the little sticker, and it says to come in by March... :worried: Is milelage or time more important??

Typically oil change places recommend 3k miles or 3 months, because they sell oil.

5k miles/6 months is recommended by most car manufactures. You can extend that mileage with synthetic or synthetic blends.

If you want to find lab tested UOA's (Used Oil Analysis) for your particular vehicle, do a search here:

Oh yeah ... and try to avoid FRAM oil filters at all cost. :worried:

Ok, thanks for the link.

I take it to the honda dealership where I bought the car. Nots ure what FRAM oil filters are, but hopefully they don't use them! :)

Many new Hondas specify oil changes @ 10k miles in the manual.

I thought that was excessive, but testing proved that Hondas are easy on oil.

Some Honda Brand filters are made by FRAM, but to Honda specs. They're not the "Orange Canisters of Death" sold at Wal-Mart.

whatever comes first. so you doubled the mileage of when you were supposed to get an oil change?

typically mileage is most important. I never go by the dates on the little stickers. All the date is, is a estimated time on when your miles will be up and you will most likely need one done.

No, my car is exactly 1 year old as of yesterday :) I got the first oil change right at 5k, and NOW the car has 10k on it... So, it's been 5k since the last oil change. I'm going to take it in this next week, but I was worried when I saw the sticker that said to come in by March... It's only been maybe 6 1/2 months since the last one.

whats wrong with FRAM filters? i have never heard anything bad until now but you seem to have something to base that on PICK.

fitnessgrl,
is that you in your avi? if so you have an awesome waist line and figure from what i can tell. sorry, just sayin

perform an oil change 3k miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.

i've seen many heads from cars whose owners actually went by this rule and they were sparkling clean

i've also seen heads from cars whose owner did not follow this, and they were sludgy and dirty

try to order original equipment filters

to many, oil is oil, but i prefer castrol gtx...i've seen motors stay sparkling clean with this stuff

i've used fram for many cars with no problems, but if you're worried just get the mobil-1 equivalent

i just lol @ the thought of having someone else change my oil...if anything it gives me a chance to check out other parts of the car that might need attention (seals, suspension, exhaust)

for god's sake have a dude do it, you're hot enough (i think)
