Hi Nelson.wonder if u know how to prevent the coomon cold from happening.this has become a huge problem for me.it only takes me about two hours of outdoor night california air to be totally jammed in the nose and i can barely breathe for the next few days.3 years of cycling juice seems to have done this to me.this problem only started since december.i've tries massive doses of echinacea and vitamin c and it did'nt help at all.any input will be appreciated.thanks

A strong immune system has a lot to do with the ability to fight off the severity of a cold. I haven't had the flu in over 10 years. But colds? They're gonna get you. I actually thought I made it through this year without one and then the first day of spring...bam! Got me. And I love it when people say, "I thought you were a health guy!" As if a bodybuilder can't get sick.

If you keep getting colds, it could be allergies or a low immunity. Heavy cycles will weaken the immune system.

in my case its both allergies and a weakened immune system.though its mostly the immune system.so theres no solution to this?

I just try to breathe through my nose as much as I can when outside (anytime really). That's what those nose hairs are for, they catch all the little shit you breathe in daily...like cold viruses.

And this is just a theory, but I try to not get chills when it's cold out. When a draft of wind picks up, I just concentrate on not getting a chill...and I swear christ I haven't gotten a cold since I've started consciously thinking about this. About a year now.

Common cold should be more aptly named common colds. They belong to the family of rhinoviruses. And there are like 50 of them.

Echinacea actually exacerbates your cold. I know you have heard differently, but it will make your cold worse.

Vitamin C is right on. Linus pauling, the Nobel Prize laureate recommended 10g/day for colds.

After that, you forgot Zinc. Extremely important mineral for the immune system, that is very often depleted.

Just get yourself one of those combination Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc tablets and use 60mg Zinc daily when you have a cold.

The vitamin C you can buy powdered.

Too much vitamin C hardens your arteries if I'm not mistaken...megadoses of anything are no good IMO.

Remember that allergies are an over response of the immune system. I have found that things like vit c and other immune boosters make allergies worse. These things lower cortisol, which most of you know is an anti-inflamitory. Lower levels of cortisol=a stronger immune system and less anti-inflamitory to unswell the nasel passages.

Really.

Have anymore info on this?

Zinc is believed to prevent some strains of cold germs from replicating. I found that beta-glucan and olive leaf extract are far better immunity boosters than C or echiacea.

As crazy as it sounds, I know what Bulldog is talking about. It;s a mind over matter issue.

I also find that keeping cold out of the ears and off the throat helps a lot -- even though cold germs aren't neccessarily in cold temperature. If I go out without covering my ears or throat when it's below freezing, I invariably get an earache or sore throat and that will lead to a head cold.

Nutrition, sleep, supplementation and exercise are the best things you can do for the immunity, along with avoiding stress.

Fact: There are few things in this world that will supress your immune system more than stress. This is one lesson that I've learned in life, and will never forget.

If I'm not mistaken colds don't last for years. :)

Isn't calcium to be taken alone or with magnesium? Since the body absorbs it over most other supps you just piss them out. i usually take calcuim a few hours after my expensive stuff like r-ala and alcar.
