Question about oatmeal and splenda.

ok guys, right now, I am 6"1 at 240lbs and 18% BF.

First question, is the "instant oatmeal(quaker oats brown sugar)" bad for you when dieting? I mean, one cup has 42g of carbs. Should I switch to regular oatmeal and add splenda to it for taste.

My point is, I am trying to reduce the amount of carbs i take in on a daily basis which is anywhere from 60-90g. I do eat 200-250g of protein and get in the "good" fats. If I reduce my carbs even more, will lose more fat more rapidly?

Thanks!

Re: your first question...yes, ditch the instant stuff.
This morning I had instant oatmeal, added a packet of splenda, a handful of frozen blueberries, and some cinnamon.

YUM.

I'll let the other low-carb whores answer your other question. :)

definately ditch the instant maple and brown sugar oatmeal, look on the packet how many of the 42 grams carbs is sugar carbs, prolly 20 or so is, that is way too much, when going lwo carb and trying to lose weight sugar is terrible it will be absorbed to quickly, create an insulin spike and too much will be stored as fat. go for regular oatmeal and if u want add 1 tsp of brown sugar, that is only 4 extra carbs and makes 1/2 cup oats taste a ton better.

yes if u reduce your carbs even more you will lose more fat rapidly, basically because you are creating an even lower calorie deficit this is what is most important. though if u create too big of a deficit you will start losing lean muscle, not what u want, just go for 15 X bw -500 or 12 X bw in cals each day and you will lose fat fine.

Realize that as 110% said you will lose fat faster ONLY because of lower calorie intake. If you were to drop carbs and increase fat to keep the same caloric intake you would not lose fat any faster, you'd simply lose more water that would inevitably come back when you added carbs again.

Why is there a growing population on this board that thinks fat loss increases as carbs decrease? It's simply not true. The only thing that increases as carbs drop is your water loss and this is always temporary. You may lose 10 pounds the first week of a low carb diet but when you eventually eat carbs again, which we all will do, then most of that will come back.

I'm with you Vageta, unless you go the true Ketodiet -when your body uses fat stores for energy...otherwise- reducing carbs simply causes you to store less water.

Anyways to answer your question about the instant oatmeal, I agree with everyone else, ditch it, it's all sugar...just like cereal. Switch to real oats. I eat 3/4 cup every morning, just add water throw it in the microwave for 1.5 min and then add 1/4 cup of Fiber 1, 2 scoops of Chocolate Low carb leanbody MRP, a packet of splenda, and a 1/2 cup of skim milk, this is my favorite meal of the day and I am stoked to eat it every morning- it's like a healthy junk cereal.

Hmm

Get the orgional oats, add 2 packets of sweet and low, some cinnamon, and a packet of rasins, it is around 200 cals that way taste like oatmeal rasin cookies. I cant spell so eat me, and the oatmeal.

Sounds good Vitor97 but I would go with Splenda over Sweet and Low, even though Splenda is more expensive it has a much better taste and your probably already getting enough aspartame with all your protein powders and other misc stuff, and this shit ain't the best for you...change it for Splenda and your set.
