Quad builders?

I know squats are the king of leg developers but what can I do to specifically hammer my quads for mass? when I do squats I typicvally feel it most in my hams and glutes the next day. I use leg extensions as accessory lifts but is there something better to terget quads?

hmm sprints never did make my quads as big as olysquats in olyshoes, and frontsquats as well :)

But no question, when I started squatting olystyle my quads blew up

Experment with your stance and find a position that hits your quads more. Try hack squats also, with the same stance experment. :)

I seem to be in the minority around here with this opinion, but I absolutely L-O-V-E Sissy Squats!! This, assuming that you do them right, with the platform, and not by hanging onto something with one hand and trying to half ass them. You need the platform for max effect. They, unlike Squats and LP, seem to completely isolate the quads--at least for me. The lower quads especially(tear drop). I consider them a basic movement, just like Deads, Squats, or Bench, since there aren't any pulleys, levers, or bearings aiding you in the lift. Although it isn't really a compound movement, it qualifies as a basic lift in my mind, for those reasons.

Here's a link, with pics of proper Sissy Squats bro:

I heard Sissy Squats are pretty good, too. I've haven't tried them because I have a repaired ACL and don't want to chance it with the extra stress on the joint.

Look interesting but I don't have that typs of rack/stand in my gym :( Think I'm going totry some variations of squats in the Smith Machine today and see what I can figure out to target quads.

So I got in the Smith Machine with 70lbs on, put my feet out in front of me and gave it a shot. My heels were about 12" out ahead of the bar so I was actually leaning against the bar to support myself. Seemed to hit the outside of my quads rather well. I guess this is actually similar to the hack squat sled where you're on a 45 and can more your feet out ahead.

I used to focus on heavy, high-rep(12-20)Squats & Leg presses and my quads & entire body BLEW UP. My physique began to take a powerful, but blocky look, especially around the waist/trunk area. Definitely something I DO NOT want!! So, I'm going to use Front Squats as my main exercise for quads along with DB Lunges and Barbell Hack Squats like The Shadow suggested.

what are olysquats?

STyle of squats olylifters use :)

bar high on the traps, narrow to moderate width stance, sitting straight down, knees going forward. Best done in Oly lifting shoesd, which are heel raised.

3 to 4 sets of leg ext. then hack squats with only the ball of feet on platform feet all the way back. This will set them on fire!!!
