Was curious as to anyone's experiences w/ Humulin R post workout and what schedule of dieting they found to be the most beneficial. How long after injection did you have your first carb meal (dextrose) ? Was it a carb only meal..........or carbs and protein?
I recovered what seemed to be a good post workout diet regimen.......
dextrose 75-100g w/ glutamine and creatine 5 min after injection, then 50-80g or whey isolate 15 min later....followed by a whole food meal low in fat w/ low glycemic carbs and lean protein source 45 min after the whey. Ane even another whole food meal same as 1st approx. 1hr after 1st whole food meal. Although this was developed w/ the use of humalog in mind, a much faster acting slin than the humulin r.
I'll have a vial of humalog in 2 weeks but for now I will be using the humulin r.
does anyone have any comments on how my pw diet timing would differ from the schedule I've mentioned?
I'll give this one a shot...
I agree with your protocol here, as it looks like you have done at least SOME research and found out abouyt the basics. I'm not an insulin-wiz, but I used it safely and with good results, so here's my $0.02...
Humalog--peaks in 30-60 minutes, done in 2-3 hours
Humulin-R--peaks in 1.5-3 hours, done in 5 or 6
I ran Humulin-R 4-5 times a week, only on workout days, and only PW, for a total of 3 weeks. 5-7 units PER, followed IMMEDIATELY by a carb and protein shake. Don't bother trying to time your post-shot carb intake here, because sometimes things happen, you forget to eat or you don't have a chance to eat in time, and you go low. Just take the protein and carbs immediately following your shot. It's OK to wait on the protein (I do) for fifteen, so long as you remember to take it. TIMING IS CRITICAL WITH INSULIN!!! Your first post-shot carb and protein sources should be something easy to absorb, like gatorade or Twinlab's Ultra Fuel for the carbs, and some WPI for the protein.
If using Humulog, wait 30 minutes before having an actual meal, which should consist of something like rice and chicken to get a good blend of complex carbs and protein. If using Humulin-R, wait an hour after your shot. In either case, AVOID ALL FATS during the window of activity for your insulin. You will inevitably put on some fat if you go carb-crazy, but avoiding fats is a good way to minimize the insulin-bloat, IMO.
Anyway, this is the protocol that has worked for me, and what a buddy of mine used who competed in the NPC at a national level. Not saying it's the only way, just what worked for us.
One more thing, because I never ran above 8 i.u.s per shot (low doses), my slin was always done in 2 hours. That's Humulin-R--NOT Humalog. I monitored myself with a glucometer to verify results. It'd peak in about an hour, and after 2 hours I was back down to earth. So just keep yourself fed during that window. If you run higher doses, however, I feel that the activity of the insulin will be not only amplified (duh), but extended.
I have no scientific evidence to support this theory, only what I noticed when experimenting with slin for myself. So this is all my $0.02, essentially here-say, and is IN NO WAY medical advice. If you kill yourself from slin-use, you want to blame a guy who goes by the EF handle, "shortstack". He is responsible for most of the havoc on this board.
Covered a lot here. Let me know if the info at least helps, if it doesn't actually answers your question.
