pro diets

High End Bro

we hear all the time how much gear did arnold take and how much and what does ronnie and jay and all the rest take... i was wondering if anyone knows what their diets are like? preferebly what arnolds diet was like as we all can assume that he didnt take as much gear as todays BBs. diet is the key.

Arnold's diet is his book Body Building Enyclopedia...

I train and am trained by an IFBB pro i have seen how he trains and eats.

HE trains very intense, he is busy with his buisness and job and honestly doesnt eat i trained with him one day and he only had one meal the whole day. Just because he is busy training people all day..

One time pre-contest he came to see my condition he was eating subway and mashed potatoes... alot of his diet is based on his training he trains like and athelete so he burns cals like a furnace

i was looking online for this the other day and couldnt find it and i realized it is in his book like faiz says. i ccould dig it out later if u like and look it up. but if i remember correctly it wasn't near as "clean" as current pros claim to follow. i also think he didn't take near as many protein shakes as they do now (if any). i think he may have occaisionally had one a day. the rest was real food.

look up Rulh on youtube..theres one where he goes through what he eats a day..insane...4 protein shakes..rice cakes..oatmeal..chicken breast..30-60 grams of creatine 3x a day..amino's btw his aminos are in amps..litterally 15mins on what he eats a day..crazy

ive always wondered that too, ronnie claims he only has one real cheat meal a year a fucking YEAR!! jay claimed in one video i saw that he didnt use eggs for some weird reaosn which i thought was just bullshit cause then i saw of video of him and he four thousand eggs in his frig lol but i think these guys eat clean but there on so many steroids that i dont think they need to eat as clean as they say they are doing....anyone here agree?

agreed.

t3&clen keeps many ripped year round on a poor diet according to lee priest.

First of all, I can't trust what Ronnie says because in his video he talks about going zero carbs and then he's eating chicken cutlets with barbeque sauce which is almost entirely sugar. I don't think a fined tuned diet matters as much when you weigh 350 pounds and on every chemical on earth.

I've spoken to a lot of old timers and the biggest difference between then and now is fat intake -- especially in the form of eggs. Don Howorth said he ate a dozen eggs a day. There was no such thing as too much meat. The Rheo Blair protein was the real supplement of choice among the top guys and they mixed it with cream. Very, very rich food. Low "starches" as they called carbs in those days. My dad was a pro boxer in the 40's-50's and the way to get lean and strong for fighters was very simple -- lay off the starches. No potatoes, no bread, no rice, no beer, no corn, no oatmeal, no cereal. Steak and eggs. Steak and salad. Steak and more steak. When I was a kid in the 70's and the high carb craze was on I would actually argue with him how his trainers were all wrong. Ha! He had the last laugh. They were right.

Boxers in the 40's and 50's weren't lean bro. They were soft but strong.

Bro, Ruhl is a fucking knob. He is a synthol/gh freak and I would not listen to one bit of his techniques/diet stratagies.

It's all about weight. Dropping carbs made you drop weight. You're thinking in terms of modern bodybuilding standards and the training, supps and drugs that go with it. Guys like Dempsy, Tunny, Walcott, Robinson, were plenty lean for the time.

in ronnies offseason video 'cost of redemption' he eats out something like 3 times a day....food is not clean either...plenty of fries, cornbread etc.

u see how small the heavyweights were compared to today

People were smaller in general. And nobody lifted weights. Hell, Micky Mantle was considered a giant. He'd hit the ball over 500 feet. He was 5'11" 190lbs.

yes man very tru statment .. i seen a show bout the 1st 300 pound football player was in the 50's .. now the whole freakin offensive line is over 300 pounds on any team... times have changed for sure

a diet of protein shakes with skim milk .....chicken....steak....eggs....and dbols for breakfast will make u a monster....throw some wheat bread with peanut butter....salads with vinegar dressing.....thats pretty much my diet lol

Waxx Maze Carbo Hydrate Powder

MEAL 3) 16oz of skinless boneless chicken breast(salt free seasoning)
16oz of sweet potato with cinnamon

Waxx Maze Carbo Hydrate Powder

MEAL 6) 16oz ground turkey breast

he stole that motto from someone else b4 him.

i have seen most all jay's dvds and at least in the dvds he follows that diet posted pretty close, even the muscle tech. i am not a fan of jays by any means and muscle tech blows monkeys. he is either going through an elaborate ploy for his videos for the sake of his sponor or he actually eats like that.

^^^^ haha for real its jus like those 300lb 6% body fat BBers on magazines next to a supplement haha ridiculous

For what it's worth, when I interviewed Craig Titus he said all he cared about was getting protein and everything else took care of itself. Dareem Charles told me he'd sometimes miss meals and eat whatever was in the refrigerator or have a protein shake. The stories of these calculated diets are for the most part, a bunch of fabricated bullshit.

Agreed Nelson. It's the carbs back in the day that they manipulated to gain or lose fat.

When some moron decided to flip that on its ear and tell us to eat low fat high carbs, heart disease and diabetes became epidemics.

I have no doubt they'll use whatever protein supp they get for free. I did when I worked for T-Mag. (Though I got sick of the flavor). But when you have to buy it, that's a different story.

Like you wouldn't take free gear?! lol

I'm not sure any supp companies are making that offer just yet. :)

I would have to agree

also if your are a number cruncher you really have to apply almost a physicians touch to it.

I think just about every supp company would (well maybe except the protein factory :) ). More like the hear no evil see no evil thing. they want their b4 and after shots for their supps. they probably just give them money for it and tell them to do with it what they want. many times they are in offseason but how do they get ready for the contest......gear.

Of course. But the supp companies don't supply it! They know the pros will get plenty on their own.

The closest I could find in Arnold's encyclopedia book is listed below. He had an earlier book, "education of a bodybuilder", i think. I believe it is in there. unfortunately i apparently hid it better than i do my gear cuz i cant find it but i found a stash of syringes i had lost awhile back...lol

Breakfast:
4 eggs
8oz milk
2 slices of whole grain bread with butter
1 piece of fruit

Shake:
16oz milk, 8 oz whipping creme, 6 raw eggs, 6 teaspoons of lechtin. Flavor as desired.

Lunch:
1/2 lb of meat
2 slices of whole wheat bread with butter or mayo
8-16 oz milk
1 piece of fruit with cottage cheese

Shake

Dinner:
1/2 to 1lb meat
baked potatoe
steamed vegtables
raw salad
1 piece of fruit
8oz milk

Who knows how much? Most of that stuff was done by the Weider staff writers and it contained what Weider wanted it to contain. Do you think if Arnold said "Aah, I eat hamburgers and beer" that it would have gotten in the book? It was meant to sell a concept using Arnold as the endorsee. Arnold would have done anything for Weider (and money) back then.

arnold wrote the encyclopedia of bodybuilding,
It's been revised a few times.
I had a early edition but passed it on about 10 years ago to a close friend to give to his son that had just got into bodybuilding

Arnold even said it the book he follwed a strict diet for 9 months while training for the MrO then in his time off he enjoyed regular everyday food just like everyone else.

I rember the ratios of fat were high by todays standards, whole milk, whole eggs, whole creams and so on , I think arnold was not a big advocate of carb cutting and dropping calories to lose fat. His solution if I rember was working out twice as hard
Then 6 weeks out from the show came his double split programs 1 1/2 hours in the morning and 1 1/2 hours working out in the evening with midsection, calves and forarms every day for the 6 weeks up to the contest.
To burn fat and tighten up along with tanning everyday, suana and steamroom to keep his skin tigh clean and flushed out.
But you have to remeber he could do all of that stuff, It was his job from 1971 to 1975 full time bodybuilder

Dude, no offense but Arnold did not write his own stuff. If anything, he may have passed along some info but I seriously doubt it was very exact and taking these diet plans as gospel...well, it's just not reality.

Funny this post came up, I did this for another thread - http://www.durtea.com/nutri/800/

His entire diet and nutrition chapter from this book.

my intention with this thread was to show newbies that even the top professional BBs have to eat eat and eat some more to maintain and gain, a winny only cycle with 3 meals a day aint gona cut it

there is a video on youtube of cutler shopping at costco. for 6-7 days of food. he bought only oatmeal, fish, chicken and water and spent like $200.

Just a few years ago arnold has a section in muscle and fitness where people wrote in and he awnsered the questions.
He then layed out a diet in one of the examples.
I guess the authors wrote it not arnold. Yet it was arnold Q & A forums.
What about frank zane?
Zane says he can look back 20 yrs ago and told you eactly what he ate from looking at his journals
In the eat like zane book look like zane book. Zane goes over his diet.
Did zane not write any of that as well, and he just through his name on the book?

I have read both the 1st and 2nd addition of the Encyclopedia, you guys are right he didn’t write the entire 900+ pages. But you guys are making it sound like since he didn’t write the entire thing that the book is garbage. Out of all the books I have read, this seems to be the most complete in every aspect of eating, dieting, nutrition, and exercise.

Think for a moment. This is one of the most powerful people in the world. Do you think he's sitting around answering letters from readers of MUSCLE and FITNESS? Arnold had a contract where Weider can use his name anytime. It still holds.

I believe Zane wrote his own book.

It was back from 02 when he was just filming t3 and a actor.

So you think arnold was not strict the last 6 weeks of a contest like he claims?
So arnold sat around drank beer and ate junk food the last 6 weeks?
Why would arnold lie in his book?

Plus weider was a theif he stole ideas from other bodybuilders and renamed them " weider principles "

Big lou did not follow his own diet he wrote in his book.He was eating a orange in the airport at 2:12 pm and it was not written down that he ate a orange in the diet as a mid afternoon snack.
So that discredits all of lou's diets in every book that lou wrote as a " typical days diet "

I think your missing the point . Arnold wote down this is a EXAMPLE OF A TYPICAL DAYS EATING.He never said he follwed it every day.
