picked up a nissan murano

these things are beautiful, you have all the power of a truck with the feel of a car

comfy yet tight suspension, very smooth transmission shifting, excellent power, AWD at the click of a button, roomy, great sound system, good on gas. i'm very happy with the purchase. now i can tow a boat next summer yay!

after winter she's getting new shoes - 22"s with h&r springs

1.5" front, 1.0" drop in rear. just enough to fill the wheel well gap when the double deuces go on

not mine but what it looks like with wheels and new springs:

When i bought my current shitbox i originally wanted a murano, but ended up getting such a good deal on an xterra that i went for it. but i like them. smooth looking, smooth driving, not too pricey. i'm a nissan guy for sure.

Nice ride but plz don't drop it....

it looks really clean with bigger wheels and a slight drop, it's not like i'll be scraping speed bumps. we're talking 1.5" in the front and 1" in the rear just enough to eliminate the wheel gap. the murano has very smooth body lines and sleek rims will compliment them

The Murano's are very nice. You'll love yours as long as you didn't go with an '03. :)

'06 with low miles

i actually don't like the new body style

I don't like the new ones as well as the last generation either.

H&R springs are nice, Very comfortable ride.

The idea behind lowering the car that 1" or so is to eliminate the fender gap. You see, when you go with a larger oversized wheel like a 22. Even though it will be nearly the exact same size as the stock wheel/tire combo that thinner tire on the new 22" wheel makes it look like you actually "raised" the vehicle. By lowering it you essentially make it look like it did when it was stock.

If he is putting rims on it then he has to drop it otherwise it looks geigh. I see too many people riding around with rims and no drop and the gap looks dumb. He can drop it, but just don't slam it.

That's why I said don't put the rims on it either. Buying a suv with awd and the destroying it's ground clearance is just a pet peeve of mine. If u want a car, get a car

unfortunately a Murano isn't an SUV, it's a crossover which is on a car frame, crossovers are closer in comparison with a car when it comes to strength, towing, and weight wise than an actual SUV.
SUV's are built on truck platforms

crossovers are a nice useful cars though, I'd be leery on towing anything with weight

I'd keep teh stock wheels for winter. low pro tires and bid rims + invisible potholes = bent rims/rash/new tires. Overall nice ride though.

True.. if it were a bigger truck I would say leave alone. I do laugh when I see big trucks/suv dropped. I thought most people wanted trucks for the big feel and for towing. Which you lose both if you drop it. The murano seems pretty small and carlike though. I have seen a Lexus RX dropped a bit and it actually looked pretty darn good. I think the funniest thing I have ever seen is some dude had a mini van dropped. Now THAT was funny!

yea that's what i'm doing

i want the new wheels for summer that's it.

miplank i do not have the intellikey thingy. another murano exact color and year (sl) did have it but it would have cost me an extra $150 per month with all that added stuff. it's nice but doesn't mean that much to me.

i love this thing for the looks, room, ride, handling and power. even the sound system is nice

i'm not destroying the ground clearance. lol, if i wanted ground clearance i would have bought a hummer and jacked it up to clear the boulders i routinely find on new england roads. you still have the roominess of an suv minus the truck feel. i don't need a truck or "true" suv. the awd will get me around winter and the interior is big enough so people like me are comfortable in it.

plus i can bring a lot of crap with me and still have room for 5 people (luggage, tailgate equipment, outdoor gear, etc)

for me it's perfect

oh, a little trick most people don't know. If you hold the lock button down for a few seconds it will roll your windows down for you. Not something you'll use in the winter, but it's nice in the summer time to air the car out before you get up to it to get inside. :)

I'm just a racist who hates esse mobiles...

Feels like a boat with an outboard motor.

i've only driven 5spd manuals before this vehicle

but i have also had plenty of a chances to drive other automatic vehicles, especially when renting cars on business trips

this transmission is by far the smoothest i've experienced to date, and doesn't give me that jelly feeling other slush boxes do

do you own a murano?

* CVTs operate smoothly and efficiently, without jerk, unlike a conventional gear transmission does while shifting. This can give a perception of low power, because many motorists expect a jerk when the vehicle begins to move and during acceleration. However, the jerk can be emulated by CVT control software, thus eliminating this marketing problem.[citation needed]

* Since the CVT keeps the engine turning at a constant rate over a wide range of vehicle speeds, pressing on the accelerator pedal will make the car move faster, but does not change the sound coming from the engine as much as a conventional automatic transmission gear-shift. This can be considered a disadvantage if the driver desires to hear the engine change tone.[2]

that's probably what makes it feel less responsive to people

plus i didn't buy this for speed or to mash through the gears, i would have bought a RWD V8 for that

i ludge it :) just turn the key and cruise

The CVT transmission is actually more responsive than traditional automatics. :)

So why hasn't more automakers bought into it?

Several tried including Honda, but Nissan is the only one that bought into the idea across the board (excluding hybrid)

The challenge with CVT for automotive use is coming up with a design that is as cheap, durable and pleasant to use as a conventional transmission

As far as automatics go, I rate dual-clutch manu-matics on top, CVTs second, and conventional slushboxes with torque converters last.

knot ... several have tried and abandoned the idea

and more are still trying it.

Like I said, maybe it's due to cost or them not being able to make one that's durable.

Manufacuters are still using them. Subaru is supposedly going with CVT's across the board in the next couple years.

knot very convincing ... what Subaru sell, like 6 or 7 cars a year?

at the sake of redundancy ... you suck at answering questions

just sayin'

No but I've driven smurfys legacy with a cvt. I'm not saying it feels bad it just reminded me how an outboard boat feels when you have to over come the wake before the boat planes out

The murano doesn't feel like that. The 3.5l puts out plenty of power. She should've went w/the turbo model. :)
