Pharmaceutical Drugs & Alcohol do NOT Mix!!!

its sad. drinking is a sign of depression.. those that you see drinking daily are in depression and the more they drink they more depressed they will become. a lot of that has to do with a crappy and dead end job.. seems to be very common in certain job industries to see people drink heavily.

It's a lethal combo for sure. I got started on pain pills after surgeries from playing a professional sport. Then when you come back to the field the doctors they have will give you whatever you want to keep you on the field. As soon as my career was over it went from pills and boos . Thank god I was able to hit bottom and turn my life around and be able to celebrate 2 and a half years of sobriety. There are a lot of people that don't make it out of that hole, it's a dark lonely place!!

A lot of people out there think that you can just "Stop" or "Snap out of it"!! It's not that easy, and if it was you wouldn't have addicts or alcoholics. The majority of prescription addicts out there get started from doctors wrongfully giving them a shit ton of pills. Then from there after you have taken them per doctors orders your addicted. The withdrawals are a mother******. Then you add alcohol to the equation and it's a downward spiral. The good thing is there is help if you want it. The 12 step program has saved my life as well as numerous others. I was in the lime light as a professional athlete and when the switch was turned off I felt like so did my life. It took me 10yrs to turn my life around but it wasn't easy. Sorry to ramble but this is a topic that is close to me and if I can help just 1 person that's what it's all about!! Now my addiction is pushing steel

^^^ yes don't get me started on doctors. docs hand out addictive drugs like candy.

i will say that those painkillers in sports are absolutely crippling long term.. team docs just want you on the field, they don't care that in 10 years you will be crippled from pounding away at an injury that is made to go away from a pain killer. REAL SPORTS on hbo did a story on it and how players before a game would line up to get a painkiller injection. of course the team docs never mentioned the kidney damage and the long term consequences of tricking your brain into thinking you aren't hurting

and good for you for not ruining your life so young and getting things turned around

Thanks bro I really appreciate that a lot!!! I saw that segment and it made my stomach cringe. They don't care about you it's all about the money. I had 8 surgeries and you could imagine the amount of shit they loaded me up on when I was able to play again. Now I will forever have metal rods in my knees along with screws and plates. You become a guinny pig whether your an athlete or not. If anybody here has a problem with this or knows somebody that does I'm here to help. The gym and weightlifting is one of the things that helped save my life along with the adrenaline and endorphine high you get from it!!!

^^^ exactly but it goes back to what i always preach on here. its up to YOU to decide whats good to take. don't rely on what a doctor tells you, or what your 'buddy' at the gym tells you. everyone has to do their own research and make their own sound decisions. those players that line up before the game for injections are rich enough and smart enough to do their own research and know what is getting put into their bodies, and quite honestly, as you saw from Urlacher they just want to get on the field and they don't care. not sure if i would either if i was getting paid millions, let me cripple myself if it means my wife and kids never have to work again.

Great thread. I have lost a lot of friends to drugs and booze. Never have I lost a buddy at to AAS or to rehab for going to the gym to much. I have had my problems and now just trying to go forward. I would like to know how many guys come to the gym to escape other addictions.

I've lost a few friends and 3 family members to scripts and booze. They all started the same way with vicodins, then when taking more than 10 norco 10's or 1000mg vicodins a day wasn't cutting it they went on to oxys and when doin 80-100mgs of that got too expensive they went to heroin. I had one cousin od shortly after he went to shooting up. His brother got clean a year later but started drinking heavily a couple months after rehab then relapsed and died. I tried and tried to help them but it was pointless. They didn't want to get clean and it cost them their lives.
