Does anyone else experience this at the gym? Now i realize that the gyms i go to are not very hardcore, but is it really that out of the ordinary for a woman to have muscle these days? so much so that people have to stare. now mind you, im not too unusual looking LOL ( i have pics in my gallery) but yet men stare while im lifting and chicks stare almost in disgust like eww she's too big. i think the men either think a woman with muscle is gross , or, they are intimidated cuz i have bigger arms LOL

this gets really annoying and im thinking about making a tshirt that says DONT STARE AT ME OR ILL BEAT YOU DOWN WITH THESE MUSCLES.

they are mostly in awe....even the ones who may think you are" too" whatever!!! it comes with the territory, just embrace it...you made it up, correct?? no matter what we look like or what shape we are in, we do not please everyone all the time, we cant....you find a level of" being" and exist there, and most of us try to improve on that as we go along in life....when you can look in the mirror and say, " I wouldnt change places with anyone"....you are there! its a great place to be....it may not be perfect by everyone elses standards, but it is for us, and thats who we live with when we are alone....

shak - i would like to think they are jealous LOL but i highly doubt it!

PBR & Backlash - thanks. i hope the guys arent looking at me cross eyed LOL but funny thing is that in over 2 yrs, i have had maybe 2 or 3 people come up to give me a compliment (not that im looking for it) so that leads me to believe that they are probably just intimidated or prolly thinking "i wonder what that chick is trying to do"

commercial gyms do suck!

i wish i had someplace private to work out where people didn't stare, try to chat, or force their advice on me.

lol, I could use one of those shirts too!

since I moved and go to a more "straight" gym, than my old one that was mostly gay men, its been more of a problem. I thank god for my ipod and try to ignore as much as possible.

Ok, I just looked at your gallery, and I know men, being one, and I do listen to the things other guys say at the gym. They are staring and having a little fantasy. Some may find it disgusting, but most of them are probably at least a little turned on.

There are not many big guys where I am, so I get alot of stairs at the gym too. I think its the weights I use though. Alot of the regulars comment to me about that now. I just block it out though, because if I notice alot of guys looking at me in the middle of a set, it breaks my concentration.

BBF - thanks for the kind comments.
we have quite a few big dudes at my gym (especially between 4:30 and 6:30pm) but, i try not to stare because i know it will only go to their heads>>
"ha, look at all these bitches checkin me out. im a PIMP"
:fro:

There's only one woman in my gym that has some impressive muscle.

I'm SO jealous. Everytime I see her I think "Wow, look at her! That's awesome!! I wanna look like THAT!". She's very inspiring! And though I DO always look at her, I don't openly stare, that's rude, so I just sneak peeks. :)

I'm too scared to go up to the muscle-woman at my gym and tell her I think she looks amazing. I feel like she's gonna look at me and tell me to F off. :) But, I'm pretty shy too, so I don't often bust on up to new people and start talking.

She would prolly not mind at all. Most of us who lift and look like it like to help other women get a handle on it. Cause normally most women won't lift and don't want muscle.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to talk to her sometime.. and hopefully she'll be open to talking back. :)

It was so exciting for me to "discover" her, after months of working out and not seeing more than 2 people total (both men) squat or deadlift.

Hi Smurfy. I hear what you're saying. My husband notices guys staring at me when I work out. BBF is probably right about the "fantasy" part. I think they also look at me like "She'll fall on her ass if she tries to lift that." But I don't & keep adding weight! LOL

We have one big guy at my gym & he gives me the nod when he sees me. I've told him before to not bother to put the weights away on the Smith machine after he got done & used them myself!

Smurfy - are you kiddin' me? You ARE NOT TOO BIG or TOO MUSCULAR! My wife's more muscular than you and I find it totally awesome!!!! Guy's are checkin' you out because they want you. Girls check you out because they wish they had your arms, your abs, your butt, etc... Plain and simple.

Now come over here and let me spot you on that next squat, from behind of course! LOL! ;)

I moved to a smaller gym, and I really don't have problems anymore. I used to get a lot of stares at the Gold's I used to train at - obnoxious staring that's hard to ignore - and that did bother me. I try to not train during prime hours anymore (mainly so I can hog the equipment) and I love the way people at this gym just kind of leave me alone. I think it's a matter of finding the right gym.

hehe... i used to train at a gym that was frequented by a lot of gay guys... i KNOW that a lot of them were intimidated by me :D

(the gay guys that were "buff" didn't stare, they usually came up and wanted to work in with me, share advice and whatnot, they were cool, but the little wimpy ones that were just there to pick up, i think they were jealous cuz their eye candy was more interested in me :D hehe)

the girls that did work out at my gym, most of them were the pink weight types, so i think they were a little put off by me... once in awhile one would ask me what i did to get my abs... i pointed to the squat rack and told them about 185 :D

Phem -

I work out at a predominantly gay gym on the weekends and i love it - i never feel uncomfortable or get unwanted looks. too bad it's not closer to my work so that i could work out there every day.

T-shirt that says, "Instead of looking at me, look at your fat ass or pot belly, and don't drop that weight on your foot".

W6

You crack me up W6! lmao!

Smurfy - whenver I see a girl leaner (easy) or with more muscles (not so easy) than me, I stare like hell (sideways, so she doesn't notice, or openly, and smile :) )

Smurfy, They are staring because you are good looking, trust me. I saw your pics and you are not too big, you look great. I would probably watch to see what you were doing so I could figure out how to get my body like that.....of course I would try not to stare:)

Don't worry, girl. If people stare it means you look good. Be proud and keep on pumping. I just flat out give compliments to other women rather than stare.

:)

Exoticsyren

Get used to it - it goes with the territory. :p

A fit person is pretty much a rarity, so lots of people will stare for that reason. Some like what they see, others don't. As long as you're happy within yourself, don't worry.

i so hate when people stare there is this one guy at my gym everytime i look at him he looks back at me its fucked up then when i go to bi's he goes and does em right iin front of me then i go to do kickbacks and there he is right in my face...oddly enough the fucker follows me everywhere and looks just like me :)

I love when people stare at me - means I'm looking good - and I love when they say - looks like you been working out a long time - and ask me for help with their workouts. It bothers me when people don't stare - I feel like I'm not as big as I think I am. If you looked like everyone else, no one would stare.

I'm usually too busy either getting ready to lift or spotting my bf to even notice if anyone's staring.

But then, of course guys are gonna stare; just like there are chicks that are starin' at guys.

I sometimes think if they are starin' at me, it's at the weights on the bar that I'm liftin. :D Yeah, babeee.

I get stared at and I have my theories about it...

1 - sometimes I think it is just cuz I am crabby in the morning with no food in my belly and probably look that way no matter how hard I try to look happy

2 - I don't have time to talk. So, I keep to myself 99% of the time and just work hard [me and the others who can't speak english I guess]

3 - I have a horrible haircut and disgusting grey hair but I think that if I go blond then I cannot swim every day

4 - I look like a total dork doing weights and people just cannot believe how dumb I am

disclaimer: this was written very late and I am tired please take it with a grain of salt

If I notice someone staring at me and our eyes meet I just give a little smile and continue on with what I'm doing. Same thing if I get caught looking at someone...I just smile. There's one group of huge guys who train seriously and I'd get caught watching them from time to time (my stares were mostly trying to learn from them). After a few months they realized I'm not a flirt or a stuck-up bitch and they've helped me train and given me encouragement. If I don't see them for a while they'll ask where I've been. Sometimes inbetween sets we'll chat a bit. It's nice to get to know the regulars since we see eachother a few times every week. I figure it's better to smile back at someone than to just ignore them. :)
