Some dude gets paid $500 outta my pocket to repeat the same things over and over again for a few weeks. real educational
prolly depends on where you took your classes. I got my DUI in PA but i took the classes in Cali. they did a fantastic job, IMO. the first 6 weeks were coming in on a Friday night to watch the boring old drinking and driving videos. that was a waste of my time. the next 7 weeks was coming in for group discussions with pre-set topics. it was different every week. they had 7 weeks of topics, you were there for every topic. if you missed a week, you were rescheduled for the topic you missed, no exceptions. the way they did it, it wasn't the same thing over and over again, so that kept it interesting. the discussions were decent as well.
the one thing they did with the Friday night movies....one week they set aside to have a counselor come in and talk about STDs and safe sex (because, as they put it, you get drunk, you get dumb, you forget to cover it up.....). you had to attend this as well. the one i went to, a very nice, funny as hell woman came in to fill up almost 3 hours of our time. she walked around the room, everyone introduced themselves to her, and she shook everyone's hand and gave everyone a big smile. it was a complete rehash of things i already knew about safe sex, but she did an excellent job of the whole thing.
at the end of her presentation, she told her story. she had become HIV positive 6 or 7 years prior. there were some shocked faces in the room, and there were even more shocked faces when she reminded everyone that at the beginning of the night, she had shook everyone's hand. she even laughed as she said "now you all know what it's like to touch someone that's HIV positive...'we' feel normal, just like you." had to give her an A+ for effort and for having the balls to say "i'm HIV positive."
yeah, it was $480 i didn't want to spend, but at least they did a good job of the whole thing.
