I own a retail establishment. I sell flooring IE carpet, tile, harwood, area rugs etc.
Well today was the day from hell, so earlier this afternoon I was on the phone with a angry customer who I was trying to calm down and rationalize with him. While on the phone and listening to this guy bitch me out a young lady comes walking by my store (on a main road downtown) she has a little boy with her and he has a bag of donuts or something (Dunkin Donuts is next door to my store) Anyhow she also has a dog with her. Before she could walk through the door I stopped my phone conversation and politely told her" I'm sorry mam, there are no pets allowed in the store" Well she answers with "well I'm only going to look at your remnant peices" I'm like WTF does that matter what in the hell you want to look at?????? I said again sorry no pets are allowed. Mind you I was stern, but I was in no way rude. She then proceeds to mumble that "she will never buy flooring here" and leaves.

Seriously people did I do something wrong?? Am I a jerk? I am a dog lover, in fact alot of days my dog comes to work with me in this very store, but I don't go around to other stores and think it's my goddam right to bring my dog in the store and if I even tried and the owner or manager told me no, I would completetly understand. What is with people today who think they are entitled to do what they want? Seriously!

expand your business to ebay or a web site

you should go to prison for now allowing that dog in your store!

99% of stores don't let animals in unless they are service animals, so she should expect to not be allowed to bring an animal. She has the burden of seeking permission to do so and not assume she can do whatever she wants.

Definetly can't expect to be selling her any flooring tho... completely up to you how to handle it, but you aren't 'wrong'.
