whats your take? my take is that computers, cell phones..texting etc etc...its just too easy to communicate. in the old days they didnt worry about things like facebook and myspace all the new shit....nowadays there isnt as strong as feelings for eachother physically. the odd marriage is still like that but i would like to see the divorce rates from now and like 1960...what you guys think?

ahh man not even cloze .. marriages of old lasted 40 50 years .. till death due us part was real!

crazy hey....sad really...technology is killing us in the end

Technology is enabling the propensity for extra-marital communications. But wanting extra-marital communication is the root of the problem -- technology just creates more opportunity. In the old days it was the person you met at work or at the gym. Now you meet people many different ways and have more and more opportunities to maintain contact and/or engage in questionable behavior.

ehh yea prob womans advancment has a good deal to do with it also .. in the past staying home .. cookin, cleaning and taking care of the kids dont present half as many affair options

^^^ What he said.

Not to mention the fact that many many women didn't have the option of divorce back in the day regardless of how much the marriage sucked.

Divorce is actually a good thing in many circumstances.

Bottom line is new age/old school matters not. What matters is the morals and ethics of the two involved in the marriage. There is nothing that could penetrate the fortress that a couple creates when they commit to each other with marriage, that is unless one or both ALLOWS it. But even then if the foundation is solid the fortress can be repaired/rebuilt better and stronger than ever before. But only if BOTH want it badly enough.

There is no such thing as impossible, but rather only that which we CHOOSE not to do. :)

LOL!!! And what about the men????

Men have ALWAYS had more opportunity/ability to cheat. I think that he was sorta saying this from the vantage point of the other half (women). Divorce has certainly increased, I am sure, as now women have the same opportunity/ability to cheat as their masculine counterparts have always had.

I also think technology is going to come full-circle. In the past, you dialed a location to reach a person. Cell phones decoupled a person from a location so now you dial that person directly. That alone opened the door to all sorts of professionally and personally scandalous behavior.

Soon it comes full-circle. Cell phones now have GPS ability. Even as we speak there is an iPhone 3G application where your phone can exchange positional information with other people on your "friends" list. Interesting, isn't it? That scandal-enabling technology will soon be one of the most scandal-limiting technologies out there.

And don't even get me started with phone records... I hope most people realize those records are saved by your phone carrier for years (yes, years... not months or weeks).

All we really need to do is eliminate cash and use your cell phone as your credit card / bank account access key. Put a fingerprint ID reader onto your cell phone and you have the most secure credit card at all. Then people wanted by law enforcement would have two options -- give up your ability to purchase goods and services or give up your location. That would suck to be a criminal.

Technology is slowly closing-in on us...

Absolutely aware of the GPS capabilities of cellphones - cool! If your spouse is gonna try to lie then they should get their asses fried.

As for the rest of it - cool as well.

It seems a bit creepy that we could all be so "watched" but :whatever: c'est la vie. I don't intend to become the head of some international drug/crime cartel anytime soon so I am thinkin that the government won't really be too interested in my day-to-day activities. :lmao:

My sentiments exactly.

You two are funny. Doesn't bother you if you're watched all the time? I wouldn't be bothered either IF the law enforcement officials don't fuck it up and mistake me for another guy. Given that they've fucked up as well, I'm scared.

Nobody here (well not that I know of, I could be wrong though) knows better how badly the law fucks up both from my side and my husband's side and still I say that I'm not concerned. Maybe my logic is fucked but I got fucked and my husband got fucked even though no one was watching (that we know of LOL). So I am thinking that since WE BOTH already got fucked, what are the chances that we will get fucked again?

(Wait a minute. Maybe that didn't come out right.)

All I am saying is that if someone WANTS to fuck you. THEY WILL. All you can do is fight like a motherfucker to try and get UNFUCKED. It isn't fair but that is just life = unfair. Period... better to just accept it, brush yourself off and move on, try to avoid people in the future that might WANT to fuck you, just because THEY CAN.

Why? The chances they'll fuck-up with poor or incomplete information are vastly higher than the chances they'll fuck-up with a complete picture of what's going on.

In a perfect world that would make A LOT of sense.

... and then there is reality.

What will be, will be regardless. As I stated, no matter how well insulated you might think you are from someone wanting to mess with your world if there is another human being bent on messing with your world - they will simply because they can. The only way to stop someone like that is to have them jailed or stop them from breathing. Sadly, there are circumstances where neither is an option.

The whole "I have nothing to fear because I have nothing to hide" mentality doesn't always prove out in the real world... does it?

Still, like you, I refuse to go through life being paranoid about technology as I ain't doin anything that I should have to be paranoid about. :whatever:

my wife and i are both extremely busy. . .i regularly text or e-mail little messages and what-not to her on days when i'm feeling in the mood. . .it definitely helps set the tone for the evening. . .personally, the technology has been a useful tool for me and (i'm sure) other busy people to use as tool to help enhance intimacy.

WERD same with me and the Old Grump, but then again it would stand to reason as that is how communication began for us! We are just keeping the romance alive with continuous little flirtations.

eventually things will work themselves out when women realize they should just stay in the kitchen and stop trying to be men.
Maybe we should take away a womans right to vote to get the message through to them.

heck. . .i regularly text or e-mail her little notes even when i'm not trying to set her up for a big night. . .sometimes i just want to remind her that i love her and i think she's the best wife and mom that i've ever seen. . .

I dunno bout the stay in the kitchen thing but you are pretty spot on about women feeling as if they need to be men. Problem is that men bear a certain amount of responsibility for that though.

Me, I don't cook. Unless I want to. I don't clean EVER. I do laundry only because I don't mind it much. I could either sleep all day or bust my ass doing any number of productive projects or go to the gym, then shower, get dolled up and go out for dinner and drinks with my husband.

Either way... we are partners in life. Neither of us is above the other and none of us is more important than the other. Neither of us sees our lives only through our own eyes, but we try to see OUR LIFE through our partner's eyes.

But he is definitely A MAN... but not just any man, he is MY MAN and I am the lady of our home.

... and I kinda like that. :)

When women stop trying to "do it all" they will suddenly see a whole host of true men/gentlemen emerging where all the losers once crowded the room.

You are sooooooooooo spot on.

Sex, passion, romance very important to keep alive but more important to honor your best friend and partner in life on a daily basis!

the fact that i'm happy is not lucky or accidental. . .it takes work. . .but it's a labor of love. . .

Feminists killed marriage. To the idiots who think women were "oppressed" and "treated unfairly" before the women's lib movement, they obviously hadn't seen women like my grandma boss my grandpa around.
This age of women acting like men just takes away their uniqueness and ends up hurting them in the end. Look at all the conflict and disorder that has resulted. Like a never ending cycle of misery under a thin veil of "freedom".

to a certain degree i agree with your first statement. . .feminists, lawyers, psychologists, democrats, insurance companies, etc. have feminized this country to such an extent that it's very difficult for boys to find their way to manhood. . .as a result a LOT of shit (not just marriage) has suffered. . .for cripes sake, we don't even have a friggin' high dive at our community pool (or any other community pool in pennsylvania) because it's "too dangerous". . .we're becoming a nation of sniveling pussies. . .we're becoming damn fine soccer players though

Ive found if you choose a woman whose work is related to serving and giving of her self such as a nurse or a teacher, she usually treats her man very well also. If you want to go out with a hard charging CEO type, then not so much.

Yup. All my older female relatives look sooo oppressed and unhappy, lol. Most of them don't even understand the point of women's lib.

the women seem to be very happy compared to working women

true dat rob, see post #34

Now it has nothing to do with technology, it has to do with balls.
Look at how many women work now making great money that can provide for themselves vs. how many women back then xcould do it...Women were forced to take beatings, be raped, etc and have to stay with these guys for the sake of not having any other choice. Now there are many more opportunities for women ranging from shelters and other assistance, to actual nice paying jobs.

Don't get me wrong technology sucks and eventually robots and machines will be the world and all our jobs will be gone, but I don't think there is much to tie it in with the divorce rates from then till now.

rapes, beating domestic violence is way up from 40 yrs ago.

women had it better in the 1950s then currently. just ask any older female. life was simple and the nuclear family was important and she focused on her family then herself like a mother should.

I would rather be a wife in the 50s then now.

I don't believe that. Having close relationships and exchanging stories with women from as old as mom to as old as my grandmom I believe that there was a hell of a lot more behind the doors, more skeletons in a closet, and more stories not being told.
I don't know which ladies you have spoke to however many that I know have stated that there lives weren't all they looked to be.

~People get married for the wrong reason.
~Couples get married in a church but have no religion in their marriage
~People don’t take their vows seriously enough.
~Couples give up too fast.
~They put their own interests before what is best for the children.
~Divorce (In Canada) is much easier and cheaper than even in the 1980's when my parents got the big D.

Etc…etc…etc…

yeah, way too many options now days. I got lucky last night, a girl I put minimal effort into. On my way home around 3am I got a call from another girl that wanted me to come over. She had been drinking and was horny, she got pissed at me cause I turned her down. I'm sure she had plan B. Hell, for all I know I could have been plan B lol.

There's this girl I remained friends with after we broke up. I encouraged her to try on-line dating, she threw up a profile and some pics and received 150+ e-mails in two hours. Even as a guy its too easy, I've initiated communication with two girls on-line thus far, I can't even tell you how many have contacted me first. Between now and Sunday night I'm suppose to go on 3 dates, I'll be breaking it off with 2 of them due to time restraints and I'm not even remotely worried about it. Times have changed.

I don't think technology has anything to do w/divorce rates whatsoever. It boils down to the fact that people are lazy!

A marriage needs constant work, and people are too lazy to put in the necessary time and effort as it is easiar for them to "quit" and try again.

This thread is too much work to keep up with, Im finding a new thread.

marriage suxs...dont do it...im in the middle of possible divorce now...nobody should ever get married unless there hit up lookin or have aids with no other choice...
did i say marriage suxs?

you gave me red for my comment above. . .i agreed with you. . .me no understand

I did? lol with this new k setup I mighta accidentally hit the disagree when it scrolls. I'll fix that sorry bro.

I bet we all know people who got married because everybody expected them to. All their family, parents and friends just expected them to. But they were not even close to being soul mates they were just college sweet-hearts LOL

i'm a knucklehead. . .i don't think anyone ever expected me to get married.

The decline of marriage and the nuclear family happened long before the start of technology overload.

what is love? baby dont hurt me dont hurt me no more..

seriously though....love is a term that gets thrown around pretty easy nowadays.

i'm a knucklehead. . .i don't think anyone ever expected me to get married.

My family did not expect me to get married cause I didnt like to share...silly them I married a girl much smarter than me ($$) :D

Then she taught me how not to be so damn selfish, now I just give everything away.

The idea of romantic love leading to marriage is only about 200 years old, at most. Probably more like 100ish years old.

Historically, today's style of marriage (i.e. 1950's-2000 model) will be a brief blip on history at best.

2000? LOL try 1950-1980

I was trying to be generous with the dates. Technically it all fell apart about when our commander in chief was getting screwing Jennifer, getting blowjobs from Monica and pulling out his dick to Paula and the soccer mom's couldn't have loved him more. That pretty much sealed the tomb on contemporary marriage.

Yea I couldn't agree more. I have a personal example of it regarding the loyalty aspect

There was a girl who worked upstairs as a Nurse assistant who pursued me for months. I mean she was so persistent, I finally had to tell her that I would have to ask my wife about going to a place with another woman for drinks. I asked her how she thought such a conversation would end. I finally told her that it was never gonna be a good idea regardless of the fact that she made it sound like it was just for drinks.

She wasn't a bad looking girl either and if I was single, I would pursued but I would never cheat on my wife.

I have cheated on someone (who ended up being my wife though) and I hated how much I hurt the other girl and vowed I would never do that again

Top Bottom
