Quite likely. I know little to nothing about religion or its history. I do enjoy the occasional anti-christian joke, though.
Something else I never understood: different christiany religions worship certain parts of the religion, but not others (jesus, &c.). Interesting how such schisms are imparted over long periods of time.
Well, it is interesting, if I remember correctly, that Isaac, 2nd born of Abraham and Ishmael, first born (founder of Islam so to speak) are brothers. Ishmael's mother is a slave girl that Abraham with God's permission slept with to have a son since his wife Sarah was unable to have a child. Then she somehow got pregnant with Isaac. Ishmael instead of inheriting his rightful destiny as first born instead watched it pass to his younger 1/2 brother Isaac. Ishmael, left and as we know it today you have Islam and Judaism. In fact one might say that this is why the Muslims hate the Israelites so much and the actual root of the violence we have today.

Every patriarchal religion has, but when *god* was considered a *woman*...and that was an analogy based on the cyclical birthin' and crop proliferation (the most evident, concrete signal of renewal to the human species)...supreme beings were believed to be manifest in every form of life. It was a true panthiestic view. With the rise of patriarchal religions, I think I would agree with Plunkey's opinion there's a component, either evolutionary or economical, triggered to limit the field of competitors.

Just to be clear, I personally think that Islam is indeed the most backwards religion around. If youre going to choose to believe in something, why choose a faith that makes much less sense than all the others. Plus, some persian women are hot and they make them wear burkas and shit everywhere. Not cool.

That's important, because the goals of the center are not just about promoting tolerance, but giving the community a place to take their kids to play or go to the gym or whatever. Everything I've read indicates that this plans to operate much like the "little C" YMCAs or the 92nd Street Y (a Jewish community center) do, meaning that religious instruction will be available, but giving the community a comfortable place is the first and foremost goal.

The Mosque is a place for people to practice their faith of choice peacefully & I don't have a problem with the concept of building one there. However the whole concept of organised religion is abhorrent to me anyway, the sheer area of quality real estate provided for buildings of worship, cemeteries etc is ludicrous.
