post an example of a specific piece of bad advice (without saying who the author was) that was then specifically backed, endorsed, by a "good bro".

the point has been made here over and over by a few people in a few ways -> the way to defeat bad speech, is with more and better speech. not with censorship.

Speaking generally, not to you specifically, going forward, if you disagree with advice, quote the advice and explain why. thats what a discussion board is for. discussion. dont attack the author, attack the advice.

if you have superior facts or logic behind your different opinion, or a number of vets post in support of your different opinion, the readers will see that and tend to discard the "bad advice".

eh....i already did back in my thread that was locked. but i've been told to let that shit go.....everyone got the point and I believe that i was able to inform people that Karma and a Platinum membership doesn't mean shit. i do not specifically attack the author, but when you think about it.....doesn't attacking the advice and attacking the author come hand in hand somewhat? when you think that the advice someone is giving is stupid, can't you assume (SOMEWHAT) that the author might not know what he's talking about?

besides, with the one that i'm thinking about (no names please) it wasn't just one or two posts. it was constantly happening as i provided links to many of his posts. i wasn't trying to intentionally attack the user, but when the same user keeps giving bad advice a mod or admin has to step up and say something....especially when that person has a platinum membership and a crap load of karma. they can be impressionable to alot of new users, and i think we all have to be socially responsible in this type of discussion.

and with the issue of censorship.....i agree that censorship is NOT the key, but rather better speech and better advice. but i think we can both agree that censorship is a BIG thing here on EF. threads constantly locked, and one thread that i can think of right off the top of my head was deleted just because it offered links to other boards. i understand the theory of competition, etc. but that was not the threadstarter's intentions.

supporting "freedom of speech", loosely defined, is not the same as supporting the speech.

I think we have a good board. We have good mods and good members. No board has a perfect system. If they do they only have 50 active members and not worth posting on any way..

Myself mava and the other mods bend over backwards to try and keep things running clean and fun at the same time as well as informative. I play no favorites when I put on my mod hat as you can attest to Alcatraz1662.
we gave you that thread long enough for it to get the point across and just short enough before it got ugly. Admen and the mods hear every thing the members say. You do have a voice here on ef which I can't say much for other sites.

We work with each other as mods and members. Its a give and take. I have members that come to me in pm's about a thread being moved or locked and I think once they talk to me or another mod they walk away feeling better about it. They are informed treated with respect and given a chance to give respect back. Things are going great.

Things are never perfect bro. Every thing will work out in the end though. People
that have been here a long time know that most people that really love ef never leave for good. They learn from what they did wrong and you might see them around again.

it's out there, mav. there is plenty of evidence out there, it's that i don't want to call out anymore names.....largely in part because some of those good bros that supported some of the bad advice have personally PMed me retracting their previous statements. they were honest in saying that they were carried away in supporting the author and became temp. unmindful to the bad advice he was giving. and because they wrote me (and in confidence) i believe it's only fair to them that their names be left out of everything. if you wanna do some searching, by all means..

and as a veteran of the united states military, believe me, I know the difference between "freedom of speech" and "supporting the speech", as I fought for one of them for years.

and also, trust me....it'll be a while before i personally throw down for a Platinum membership, you can read about my thoughts on Platinum memberships in the previous post. this Plat was awarded to me personally by a Chairman of the Board here for my last thread.....but cheers anyway ,
