New Goals

Hey guys.... I know i just tested my maxes, but i am definitely going to make some goals for the end of August (27th to be exact).. Some numbers I will strive to hit before i head off to college.

I don't really have much, if any experience on making goals after testing my maxes, so your input is much appreciated. Here are my lifts and what i am thinking

Military- 125
Deadlift- 355
Bench- 175
Squat- 265 (no belt), 275 (belt)

Military- 135
Deadlift- 375
Bench- 190 (i would kill for 200.. bit of a stretch though)
Squat- 285 (no belt)

Do these seem reasonable to attain over the next 3ish months??
 
Yes. They do seem attainable though I don't know why anyone would set goals and then a Deadline to top it off. Goals motivate me enough...deadlines just make me desperate.

yeah i get you lol. To be honest, I just really want to get maxes before college :) Really will most likely be the last time i set a deadline on finding a max though.

I understand. I think you can get these goals. They're very realistic.
 
attainable, dont think of it as a deadline though just aim to be that strong by the time you leave college. Aslong as you are stronger when you leave than you are now then your making better progress than alot of people...
 
Honestly I think those are kind of low for where you are at. If you'd been working out for like 10 years those would be good but you still have plenty of fast gains in you I'm sure. IMO shoot for:

Military---150 (this might be too high)
Deadlift----405
Bench------195
Squat-------300

Other than the military I think all the goals are easily attainable, especially deadlift and squat.

dammmm man. I was actually thinking with the same thought process as you at first... not as high numbers though about not being that advanced.

I would say military is definitely too high haha. Deads +50 pounds in 3 months? Bench looks good (would fucking love 200) and squats im not sure where i'll be.

Young dudes. I really have nothing to add here other than how impressed I am with you guys. Most of the grown men in my gym do not do these lifts (squat, dead, standing OHP), or they're doing them with the worse form imaginable.

It's great to have specific training goals, both short and long term, but don't get too caught up in them. Slow and steady progression beats no progression at all, so train smart and keep training hard. You will get there.

I really hope you guys stick with this lifestyle because you all are on the path to becoming true beasts.
 
take it from me bro done make your goals too high. I have had 4 big injuries since I started my log and 2 of them have been because i was really pushing the weight on one or more lifts to try and make a goal by a certain time and i was desperate and ignoring the fact that i was maxing out week in week out. I also hit a big deadlift plateau that lasted months by doing that. And the injures put me so far back it was another goal completely to get back to where I was before the injury, let alone get back to the original goal...

Remember though he is 18 years old.... gains are MUCH easier at 18 than 15, if he stays injury free those goals will be cake. On behalf of all the young guys on here thanks for the comment sl:)
 
young guns, Jdid I want to see you hit 200 on the bench too man. Your lower body is proportionally stronger than your upper body, 200 is definitely in the cards just make sure you increase your upper body workload.

Thanks man!! Yeah, I am aware that the short term means essentially nothing. Providing that I am injury free, I am going to keep up this lifestyle 1000%. Maybe not to the point where I am deadlifting 600 and squatting 400-500, but definitely going to stay active. I thought about this last weekend when i was on vacation... I made time during the day to hit the gym- absolutely fucking love lifting :)


Also, @ Mike/Tblock/EM-- have your parents commented at all about your weightlifting? Even though I'm not that big, my parents said my neck is starting to look "ugly" lol (guess my traps are growin!!). I actually took that as a compliment becuase i know what they're implying, but I'm just curious if your parents have ever said anything to you.

EM- Yeah man- i definitely agree with you.. I actually think that if i really went all out on 365 on deads that i could have hit it. However, baring in mind the pain i experienced in my lower back 2 days prior during military press, I decided to put it down.

TBlock- I really hope so haha. "Shoot for the moon and land among the stars" I remember andalite saying this in his thread and i'm bringing it up because it really applies here.

Mike- thanks man. Hitting a 200 bench would be amazing. For upper body, I am going to do (including military day) Bench, Military,Dips/Weighted Dips, Chins/Weighted Chins, DB Rows, Clean/Push Press, DB Skulls, CGBP, possibly floor pressing if i can do it @ my gym. Do you have any suggestions based on experience? I haven't really done more than 1 set of bench for 2-3 months, and I think that has really restricted my progress.
 
I'm gonna add my 2 cents for your upper body, as I have approaching decent upper body strength.

I would do 2 days a week of heavy upper body:


Day 1:

Bench
db bench of some sort
something heavy and hard for triceps, either dips, skullcrushers, or something
whatever else you want


Day 2:

Military press switched with push press every couple weeks when you stall
Floor press (heavy couple sets of 3)
maybe cgbp too
whatever else you want

I guarantee your bench and all upper body stuff will shoot up

As for my parents, they have bitched at me a little, my mom had her hands and my shoulders and said, "Eew what are those!" When she felt my traps :lmao:!!!!!!!
 
Good luck brother, i definitely think you got this.

My gf constantly comments when i go to the gym, saying that i'm already big. and then i just laugh and say "no... nowhere close to big" because for a highschool kid i'm big, but not compared to all the guys on here and everywhere else lol

where ya going to college at? i'm going to montana state in bozeman myself, pharmacy major :)

I don't want to stall on these for at least 6-8 weeks. Once I get to 125, I want to see how easy/hard that is for a single (i will definitely be much stronger at this point, but it's something to base my gains off of).

To be honest, I never loved DB Bench- although I might do it. I am going to have a row variant on bench day, and am contemplating doing dips twice per week. I did dips for my tris the other day (more upright than leaning over) and i swear they've never felt so worked in my life. I know that's not an indicator of a good workout, but i can tell they are damn good. Also gonna have chins on military day. Also going to probably do like 5x5 for light-medium clean and push press and again, slowly work my way up and have the volume vary per workout.

my mum says although my lifting is kind of obsessive she prefers it that was as it means im not out getting drunk or smoking pot in the evenings instead haha

about my muscles I can tell you would rather me a little slimmer and she has said before she would rather me go to the gym to keep fit and stay slim rather than to get huge but she knows how much i like it and doesnt want to try to make me change.

lol about the neck... I have to wear a 17.5inch neck measurement for my shirts :p so yeah my neck is quite big, i swear military presses and deadlifts make my neck thicker... but no i dont get much comments about my muscles from my mum or dad...
 
I think you can easily get an over 200 pound bench press. 195 seems so low for a max for someone like you on your other lifts.
 
On the topic of parents. Recently my mom has told me I've been getting bigger, possibly fatter, she said I look less attractive. To be honest this kind of troubled me cause as much as I love lifting I dont want it to hinder my looks, not that I am a pretty boy by any stretch of the imagination. It just that I would rather have girls see me and be like damn, than be an overweight meathead. Its a tough call.

DB bench is definitely really good, it especially will help strengthen the lower part of your bench. If you pause them it will help even more.

Shit man, You ought to surpass those goals by quite a bit, hell, you do 5x5 and you typically put 30-35 pounds on each lift in the 9 week rotation, plus if your eating right you could put on way more, I know diet is my biggest problem, good luck bud!
