Nelson's opinion on milk

now Im all confused. Nautica, are you saying my body can't utilize the protien in milk? Im lactose intolerant, but still drink 4 glasses of fat free chocolate a day with lactaid to help digestion. I do this for both the caloric content and the 80 grams of protien. It's like the perfect shake, only...its not a shake! what could be sweeter??

Seems like your are also going for the fat look. Would you like a cheesburger with that shake???

I gave up milk for quite a while (>1yr) and I began to get sick a lot (colds mainly). On a whim I started drinking it again and I stopped getting sick as frequently. So that should add to the controversy. But I've pondered this question so many times; "does it really do a body good"? One thing is for sure, it sure is satisfying. I love milk, and unless someone comes out with a very good reason why I shouldn't drink it, I GOT MILK! :P

I agree 100%
but the carbs, so I looked into lactose free milk, thinking no lactose, no carbs, but what I found out was "lactose free" means they reduce the lactose (not by much)and add "lactaid" whch is the enzyme lactose intolerant people are lacking

I think it would be the perfect food if they would remove all the milk sugar (lactose) and just add sucralose for sweetener

And to add to the controversy milk does not run down your immune system, I think that is something peta came up with

Some people have a hard time digesting milk, others don't. Some take "lactaid" along with it and are fine.

The thing is this: milk protein isn't indigestable, but it does take a long time to digest, which is good and bad. Bad, because it lays in your stomach -- good because the nutrients are released slowly, making it somewhat anti-caatabolic.

Milk, like all dairy can smooth you out, so if you're cutting it isn't a great choice but I think milk is excellant if you're on a bulking program. Mixing your protein shakes with whole milk works like a charm for growth. After all, it is natures "growth food." Some people will say it makes them fat but if you're an ectomorph, it shouldn't be a problem.

Milk also contains lactoferrin, colostrum (tiny bit) and is pretty high in BCAA's. And if you want to believe what Rheo Blair said, lactose is the ultimate carb since it's animal in origin as well as highly insulogenic which forces ntrients into the bloodstream very effectively. (Another reason it causes growth?)

Besides, what else are you going to wash down the Detour bars with?

Well, I'm a long suffering ecto and looking for ways to up the cals. I can only eat so much. Getting the cals in in liquid form is a lot easier. I guess a whey protein shake with milk would be ideal before bed since the slow release nutrients of milk would be less catabolic during the long over night fast (I haven't warmed up to the notion of setting my alarm at 3:00 AM for a protein shake). And as far as milk making you fat I still would think that it would depend on the overall caloric intake versus caloric expenditure.

yeah, for real. a u-turn bar w/o milk just isn't right. but i do use milk (1%) during cutting. maybe one cup a day if that. i doubt it hurts me much, since i focus on my caloric intake and keep it in check.

mt, Recently I've cut back on the cheese and ice cream. I actually switched over to soy icecream too. I never was a big cheese fan, but the amount of milk i drank was much greater than my cheese and ice cream combined.

I like milk for bulking and rely on it heavily especially Hershey Chocolate Milk. 1000 cals and 32g protein in a quart. I have a hard time putting on weight BTW. I do hate the phlegm though..........galaxy
