Nelson's opinion on milk

I was a big milk drinker for most of my life (29 yrs) until I talked to a few people about why I kept getting sick. I was catching colds, the flu and just feeling run down. Recently I switched over to soy milk, but don't drink nearly as much of that as i did regular milk. I haven't been sick or felt like crap since I stopped. Not only do i think I'm lactose intolerant, I think there is something in the milk that made me more subject to illnesses. It worked for me to switch over and now if i have any milk its just not appealing anymore like it used to be. I've also dropped a decent amount of bf since i switched. :D

I gave up milk for quite a while (>1yr) and I began to get sick a lot (colds mainly). On a whim I started drinking it again and I stopped getting sick as frequently. So that should add to the controversy. But I've pondered this question so many times; "does it really do a body good"? One thing is for sure, it sure is satisfying. I love milk, and unless someone comes out with a very good reason why I shouldn't drink it, I GOT MILK! :P

Which one of these macro-nutrients cannot be digested and why?

Not trying to start a fight but I hear so many conflicting views that it's hard to figure out the truth.

Not going for the fat look but wondering what you meant by milk being undigestable.
 
As stated for adult humans lack certain enzymes which aid in the digestion of milk. So whether you like milk or not - that is up to you. If it is calcium you are after, go for green leafy vegatables. If it is protein you are after find the beef. But if it is fat you are after - then milk is your answer.

· Rennin is the enzyme for milk coagulation, acting on milk casein by producing a gel-like mass, in preparation for the protein digestion by pepsin.5

· Gastric lipase degrades fats eventually to fatty acids and glycerol, operating in conjunction with bile (an emulsifying agent) after the chyme (the liquid feed) leaves the stomach and reaches the small intestine. Feed chyme is moved through the compound stomach and abomasum in peristaltic waves of contraction. Some movement is also attributed to reticular actions that lift the body of the abomasum by virtue of its thin muscular attachment. The acidity of the abomasal contents usually remains close to pH of 3.5

now Im all confused. Nautica, are you saying my body can't utilize the protien in milk? Im lactose intolerant, but still drink 4 glasses of fat free chocolate a day with lactaid to help digestion. I do this for both the caloric content and the 80 grams of protien. It's like the perfect shake, only...its not a shake! what could be sweeter??
 
For your plain 'ol milk milk:

The cows are separated from their calves at an early age, kept in barns, and milked by machines. They are given GH (bGH) so that they will produce more milk. The GH causes infection, so the cows are given antibiotics.

It's pretty sad perversion of nature when you think about it.

I like milk, so I buy the hormone free milk grown locally. Better for the cows :)

Milk does NOT help prevent osteoporosis. Calcium helps prevent or at least slow the progression of osteoporosis. But there are much much better forms of calcium.

First of all calcium can not be absorbed by the body unless vitamin is present - that is why they now add vit D to milk - but the calcium in milk still does not compare to the calcium in green leafy vegtables or even fish bones.
