Nelson Montana - what causes 'Roid gut?

I've read a visceral fat theory on this topic before - that constant cutting to barely viable body fat levels promotes deposits of stubborn visceral fat behind the abdominal wall to protect the internal organs.

Generally, there is a widely held belief that visceral fat might be a complication of insulin resistance. I can see that tying in here.

That's a good theory...I never thought of that. If you cut your body fat down so much, your body is going to need to store fat somewhere...and that would be in the form of visceral fat. So as peripheral body fat decreases, the amount of visceral fat increases. Hmmmm? Sounds interesting.

The test for visceral fat I read on some web-MDish website is to flex your abs, and if they stick out... you got it.

Everyone has visceral fat...the amounts vary however...and the less, the better.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to look like Ronnie Coleman. But that's me.

I think it's his beautiful face that people want to emulate. :)

The body needs to store fat there because if you have too little visceral fat, internal bleeding of the organs is likely.

It seems though, even though visceral fat is normally easier to lose, if you starved to death, you would probably die with a good chunk of your visceral fat left, as the body tried to protect the core elements and sacrificed everything else first.

So there may be some feedback mechanism there that bodybuilders are falling foul of with the repetitive severe cutting.

Zane certainly was "small" by todays standards but much more pleasing, attainable physique in my opinion. Hell, i just rewatched pumping iron and arnold didnt even look that big by todays standards. Nubret is actually one of my all time faves. Tiny waist and joints. Saw Zane recv his lifetime achivement award at the arnold and he still looks very in shape for his age. Will todays pros ever see 60?

I think a lot of it has to do with the inner stomach wall getting stretched out and not properly worked due to eating large amounts of food.

I agree with Zyg on this, even though this is only a temperary problem, that can be fixed with eating smaller portions of food. I know a few guys that eat like a fucking pigs on sust and other bulking cycle and have a nice six pack pushed out passed there waste, looks nasty, but once they start to eat smaller more spread out amounts of food, it deminishes into a nice six pack.

On the other hand GH is more of a perminant problem.
