Nelmsjer's 2006 Journal

AB, I believe you've been called out. Feel free to use my thread to explain, as I believe several people will be eagerly waiting for an explanation. ;)

On with the journal...

Today's workout was a bit of a slow start. I got all my lifts, but I was dragging at the beginning. My balance on overhead squats was not quite abysmal, but it was close. My form on push press was lacking...just no groove. Then, the deadlifts started, and everything went great.

There will be no sponsorship of today's journal. I have fired my marketing department for the last mistake and am currently reviewing and accepting applications. Choose your letters and numbers with care.

All sets done for 5 reps.

Overhead squats: 105/130/150/170 - not heavy, just wobbly

Push Press: 95/115/135/155 - I actually read this wrong and thought I was supposed to do 155. It was actually 150.

Deadlift: 230/275/320/368 - grip was poor on 320, but finished. Mixed grip for 368. Felt great.

Looking ahead to week 7 (currently on week 3), I admit to wisps of doubt. The current schedule would put me at weights beyond what I've really ever considered. I normally don't like to admit to limiting thoughts, but they are creeping in. I know the mind has an amazing power over the body, and it looks like I will be depending on it to work for me. Hmmmmm......

Running was the agenda for the day. In another thread in the Women's Forum, I very briefly discussed the Tabata protocol. That propelled me to consider doing the first few 20-second sprints in that fashion. So, today, IP and I did the following:

20 second sprint, 10 second rest, 20 second sprint, 10 second rest, 20 second sprint
40 second rest
After that, we did 7 more at our normal 20 second sprint, 40 second rest. We followed up with 6 minutes of jogging, instead of 5. We both felt strong today.

I also started fat burners today, so perhaps that contributed.

Did it. Needsize 5x5 abs. Strict. Motivated by the Bunny and the fact that my wife does 5x10.

Time to graduate from hands on the chest to hands behind the head, now.
