Hey bro.......
Can you do me a huge favor and remind me of what your new routine is? I know you were runnin 5x5 and then you switched to a new routine which you laid out but I cant seem to find. Id like to take a look at it because from reading your posts and based on your 5x5 routine my body responds in the same manner. If you could lay out what your doin now Id be very greatfull.

Thanks

I was doing a variation of what Yates did in his blood and guts video. He did one set to absolute failure of a few different exercises, I did two sets of each, usually about 4 exercises
ie
flat bench 2 sets 6-8 reps
incline dumbell press 2 sets 6-8 reps
incline flyes 2 sets 8-10 reps
hammer strength press 2 sets 8-10 reps with a double or triple drop

This worked well and I made some great mass gains, and brought up some of my weaker areas, but I've switched again. There is a personal trainer that works out of toronto, Laura Binetti, shes a pro bodybuilder and known for bringing people into peak condition for top level shows. Her mass building(structural training) is completely different than anything I've ever seen, but every one I've seen on them, has gotten massive. ie, a local cop that I train with uses her, and was walking around at a lean 290+lbs at 6'1".

Her routines are different every week, the exercises, and amount of sets per exercises, everything changes constantly. I've never trained that way, so after having people bug me for the past year, I decided to give it a try. So I'm doing that now, but with my own spin. For me, some things always work, ie bench for chest, squats for legs, so I'm not going to drop them. But what I'm doing is starting with say bench, but then everything else changes every week. Even the number of sets I do for bench will change, so my body is seeing something different every week. I'm just over 5 weeks in(started a cycle with it at the same time), and I'm growing like mad. Up 12lbs in 5 weeks(and I had a brutal fever for a week of it), so I'm pretty damn happy. It looks like I'll hit 265lbs or so on this one, which isnt too shaby for a guy who is 5'8" and has a tiny frame. The constant changes do keep me motivated, and I'm really getting strong on the core stuff too

Thats awasome bro! Thanks for the info, Im about ready to change up and I wanted to see what you were runnin, thanks agian. 265 @ 5'8.............DAMN thats crazy, Im 8 inches taller and only 20 lbs more! your a giant. Good luck with the new trainer, sounds like she knows her shit, its always good to switch it up. 12 lb in 5 weeks is great for someone with the amount of mass already on your frame. Good luck on your next comp.

thanks, it is going well so I cant complain, especially in the weak areas
cool thing is I still havent hired a trainer, I'm using a hybrid of hers and my routines, but I havent had to dish out the heavy cash yet

12 pounds in 5 weeks, damn! Im not trying to hijack bigdho, but needsize (or bigdho)...is that weight attained with AAS or can that be done naturally too?

When you did the above...do you just train each muscle group once a week? That lookis like a workout I would want to try after the show so I'm in the gym less but still hitting things hard. Just curious.

in my case, definitely not naturally. But I trained for over 10 years naturally, starting at 120lbs at 5'8", so at this point, nothing comes naturally for me anymore. A decent percentage of that is going to be water, but after all these years of bodybuilding, I've learned to manipulate my body really well, I it can go up or down really fast.

halfaclue, it was all once a week, except things like rear delts and traps, which I really needed to bring up. The nice thing about doing only two sets of each exercise, is it still leaves you strong for the other ones too, so I hit a lot of personal best on other exercises, like 10 reps on 140lbs for incline dumbell press

Thanks Bro...definitely going to give that a shot during my summer resting months

If you're ever in Toronto for a workout, I want to workout with you. I have never worked out with a beast before and would love to see what it's all about. Protein shake on me. lol

I don't think I'll be the one motivating you. Other way around. Don't get me wrong I'm no slouch as I train heavy and hard with a lot of intensity, but compared to you I'm not at your level.... yet! ;)

its all about intensity...the guy I train with now cant lift my weights either, but he trains hard as hell, so I train even harder to not let him out do me

jkurz1, I dont know that I can post the routine as it changes every week, like I said the core stuff stays the same, like bench and squats, but everything else I rotate around every week

I just saw a few short video clips on another board of Ronnie training. You've probably already seen these, but he does 200lbs dumbells flat bench for 12 reps, 760lbs for 4 reps deads, 800lbs for 2 reps squat, and 800lbs for 2 reps deads. Talk about motivating!

thats the "unbelievable" video, it made me feel like I dont even work out after seeing those poundages

Do you could post a link or tell me which board that was? I'd love to see it that vid, especially the 200 Lbs DB Flat Bench.

Did NS ever post his workouts?
I've been searching like a friggin FBI agent :lil k:

265 @ 5' 8" is stout, man.....seriously, if you have the time and patience post up a journal or a few workouts at least, just for curiosity/motivational purposes......I don't know if you've been reading the boards much, but your decline situps have quite a following here, and they work damn good too.

Why the fuck do people bump ancient threads? Furthermore, where do they even find them, lol.

It is still relevant bro, needsize still posts here and reads this stuff regularly.
some ancient threads are good threads still.

Maybe he'll find this thread and give us an update on how he's doing. I don't think I've heard from him in a year or more. Always a good guy.

T, I have no clue what he's doing now, but here's the "Needsize 5x5" routine for which he's probably best-known. He posted some pretty recent pics on the anabolic board a few months ago if you want to try to dig those up without Plat search. :p

I remember Needsize and madcow talking about how it was cool that NS independently derived some of the training principles at the basis of other routines and incorporated them into his routine by looking at what worked in his own experience.

Nice to see that jkurz1's post quality has remained consistent during his time on EF.

I am still around...
I did post those pics a few weeks back
I am still following lauras routines, her offseason ones were killer, some of the most intense stuff I have ever done in the gym, but they did help bring up some key areas...because the exercises and reps change every week, you cant be as strong as I used to be, which is nice, and I dont stress about moving massive weights every week...right now I am following her contest routine, just to stay tight for the summer...in sept i start with heavy mass training again, lauras routines again

I'm about 15 minutes away from hamilton, it takes me just over an hour to get to the falls

You drive too slow, lol...

Falls to Burlington skiway = 30min drive, depending on traffc :)

It seems there are a few people here form Southern Ontario.

Yeah, violate that confidentiality agreement!

Personal training plans are almost always:
1. Customized based on goals at a given time
2. Subject to cancellation if said non-disclosure agreement is violated

So try doing some reading instead of hoping NS has some magic routine that will work for you.

the routine is somewhat customized for me and my weak areas, and true, I cant post it as she charges for them....not to mention that every workout is totally different, so I would be typing out 12 weeks worth of routines.....

The routine I was looking for was the one you used before your 5x5 and before you met Laura. Did you ever post that? a long time ago?

thanks

there really wasnt anything concrete before 5x5, that was the first solid routine I ever put together, and I used it for years....after I got to the point where it wasnt doing what I wanted it to anymore, I created sort of a hybrid, of the 5x5, and the stuff I saw Lauras trainees doing, still very heavy, but it changed every week...I used that for a while, then finally went with laura

NS - when is the next comp? You bulking now?? I'm shooting for a local show in 13 months....starting bulking this weekend....cant wait to polish off a jar of ANPB each day, Needsize style......

no comps for quite a while if ever, I need minimum 20lbs more mass to get on stage, and my body doesnt want to grow anymore....right now I am still trying to get bigger, but not obsessing about it like I normally do....just enjoying what I have built

hi needsize - i have a problem with your ab routine.. i don't have a decline bench!! my gym doesn't provide it as they think it's too dangerous

is there any creative way of doing it?

Roman Chairs or anything else that would allow you to hold your legs/glutes in place with your torso extended might work. And, of course, you could use an incline bench (unless those are considered dangerous too :p) if you could find a way to secure your feet at the top.
