First off, if you want to help, terrific - it is greatly appreciated. If you don't want to help, I understand that but don't post snide or smart ass remarks on this thread.
Ok, that said.... you may remember that in my neighborhood I have a deaf child that I pay tution for each month in order for him to go to a better school that has better equipped teachers to tutor him.
His class (4th through 6th grade) is going to Washington DC for a field trip. He has to have 50 sponsors in order to go.
The cost of the trip is $920. (That is for he and his mom). I am sponsor #50. I will pay the remaining cost of what he doesn't get from the other 49 sponsors.
He absolutely MUST have 50 sponsors because one of the things scheduled is they are going to set aside a day and mail post cards to ALL 50 sponsors that support each of the classmates.
If you would like to be a sponsor, you would be helping out a child that has a very bright future and potential, despite his handicap. You will get a thank you card in the mail before the trip, a postcard from DC and I will post a pic of his class there.
There is no limit to what you can/can't donate. Whatever you are comfortable with. $3, $5, $10, $20... Anyone donating more than $25 will get a thank you card and a plush animal along with it. (I know - big deal.. but this is what the school offers.) Just think, you probably have $3 in change in your car ashtray.
You can donate by check or money order to the school itself, so you are not leery of mailing cash or think this is a scam.
Everyone else at the school has their parents to go to work and round up co-workers to support them. But this child has a single parent and she lost her job earlier this year, so she can't round up people from the workplace.
If you would like to help, please send me a PM and I will give you the info. If you wish, I can post the sponsor letter the school gave him here for all to see.
Surely I have helped out more than enough people in emails and PM's with their training and diet questions to get a little support for my friend here.
