They thought I was gifted because I could read by the time I was four, but around the second grade, I started getting stupid because I was running with the wrong crowd. Keep him on a short leash.

Our property is pretty rural - so when he gets home, he does his homework and then invents things to do for playtime, or watches movies and plays along with them. (He's into Pirates or the Carribean right now. I made him a scarf with dreadlocks hanging out of it. lolol) There aren't any kids living near us. Sometimes it worries me - not having kids for him to play with...but I understand what you're saying. He didn't have any bad habits until he went to school and picked them up from other kids.

thank you, everyone. I am EXTREMELY proud. I home schooled him during kindergarten - and he's been breezing through school ever since. He loves to read...every night before he goes to sleep he reads a couple of chapters out of the Lemony Snicket series.

Yes, my little girl was placed when she was in the second grade too.

They call her program "Tag", which stands for Talented And Gifted.

We've had nothing but great results from the program as well. She would always say she was "bored" in school. Trust me, she no longer states she's bored.

Her school, which is private, goes the extra mile with outside activities; like trips to science labs, museums, etc. Bri has loved it.

She's a very mature 10 year old! Too damn smart at times-YIKES!

Congrats to you and your child! I hope you'll both enjoy this new experience as much as we have.

My mom had bought me all of the little workbooks in grammar, spelling, counting change, telling time, multiplication, etc before I started kindergarden. So, I could read, write, do math, etc. before I started school. I had really bad separation anxiety though and peed my pants lots at school (some things never change...lol). I HATED school until they tested us and set up the gifted program. Then, I loved it. Those programs are a like saver for gifted kids.

Yes, did the teacher's tell you that he liked to help the other children in class since he got his work done so fast? Yep, Bri would do this too.Her teacher would laugh at Bri and have to remind her WHO the real teacher was. Funny

You will love him being in the program. He will have his mind expanded beyond your wildest dreams.

DO NOT let anyone tell you that you are "growing" him up too fast either. I heard that crap a lot. They make time to allow the kid's to be kid's!

I received 2 letters home this year from the teacher because he was giving answers to tests. lol I guess he was finishing early and then whispering answers to the others.

...I think his biggest problem will be facing bullies. There's not a mean bone in his body, and he's been picked on a few times by other boys. As a parent, I want to step in so badly and kick some ass, but I know I can't. He has to face this stuff on his own and learn how to handle it.

Ha! So CUTE! I sure hope my baby is smart and loves to read. I would love to read to him the classics like Tom Sawyer when he is really little and hope he developes a love of reading too.

kids learn by example. if you read and your child sees you do it on a daily basis - most likely they will, too. Kids also thrive on repetition - setting a schedule that they follow day after day gives them a sense of security. If you include reading in that daily schedule, it will become a habit.
