thanks, but back to your son, is he excited about it for real, or just happy because you guys are proud of him

He pretends it's no big deal, but he's got a smile from ear to ear. He's been after me to take him on a 2 hour tour of the Grand Canyon Caverns - they give you special equipment - a special suit, head light, etc and see the caves that aren't on the regular tour. Not for the faint of heart, I'm told.

So...I think I'll take him after he gets out of school as a reward.

thats awsome, definately do it

If you don't mind me asking.. What made you decide to home school him?

and What made you decide to start him in regular school after the home schooling?

It's possible for him to be a jock and a scholar. My daughter plays lots of sports, (kicks some serious ass in b-ball), and gets straight A's in the gifted class.
Some of it may be genetic, but I think they get it from their environment as well. If you're always excercising and watching sports, chances are they'll pick up on it.

A guy in my daughters program is the best athlete in the school. But apparently he's also kinda pick3, he's alway kissing dudes!

I just got a letter from the school district. They tested him a couple of weeks ago. :) I have a meeting next week at school - they're going to tell me what programs will be available for him next year. (He'll be in the 2nd grade.)

Anyone have experience with this? If so, please share...

Oh yeah? Well my brother was ranked #1 out of 650 students at his highschool and I beat him in scrabble at least half the time. Top that.

We own an excavation/earth moving company and we got a contract in Belize, so I home schooled him while we were there. We got back about 3/4 of the way through, so I put him back in school when we returned. I probably would have continued to home school him - but he got lonely for other kids, so I felt it was the right thing to do at the time. I still feel it was the right thing - He needed to learn social skills.

I received 2 letters home this year from the teacher because he was giving answers to tests. lol I guess he was finishing early and then whispering answers to the others.

...I think his biggest problem will be facing bullies. There's not a mean bone in his body, and he's been picked on a few times by other boys. As a parent, I want to step in so badly and kick some ass, but I know I can't. He has to face this stuff on his own and learn how to handle it.

Awww, no worries. Bullies are gonna pick on children NO matter what class your /our child is in.

I've always taught Bri that if she runs across "those type" children that she ignore them. IF they do not leave her alone, then she can defend herself. She knows how to do that too. Now a days, it seems that these kids with anger issues have MORE rights than your child's or mine. Screw that crap, she has my permission to whip ass if she has too. Thus far, Thank God, she has never had to use her ass kicking skills.lol

you guys have made me feel a lot better. my son is very smart...reading at three. he had a facination with cars at 2 and learned the names of every car imaginable...but of course we all feel this way about our child, or should. his grandmother kept him everyday until preschool and she stimulated his little mind to the point of sheer aggravation(at least to me, he loved it). it took him a while to learn how to interact with the other children at preschool but now he is fine. i was worried that he wouldn't fit in well as he grew up. but now you guys have made me feel a lot better. hope he gets a scholarship. have you guys checked out how much it is gonna cost to put a child through college in 15 years/!?!?!?! if i invest the total lump sum, $35,000.00, in a college fund right now, his college will be paid for, a measly 106 k or so for 4 years!!!

Let them pay for it themself. I paid for mine and I think that's the way it ought to be. You take it a lot more seriously when you're paying for it, opposed to mommy and daddy paying for it.

yeah i guess i can see your point. but i know people that are still paying school loans and they're nearly 30. by the time he gets old enough to go to college, could you imagine what it would be like to ask an 18 year old to borrow 100 k for school? i don't want to do everything for him by no means. i just want to help him get a start in the right direction. not gonna buy him a new car at 16 or anything like that.
