My long lost daughter: update

HRT keeps me young!

Some of you know about the struggles I had with my teen age daughter. I had advice from run away to hang in there no mater what. I listened most to the Moms who had been through it or were like her in the day.

I hung in. She bottomed out and lost just about everything because of her decisions and behavior. Everything I told her happened including the b/f leaving her for someone else.

Now we are tight. Lots of roses for Valentine's Day. Seeing a counselor every Monday. She is headed for graduation with a 3.5 gpa and a 27 act. Accepted to School of Medicine at Wayne State/Detroit Medical Center in Detroit. Not too shabby for someone who lost the eigth grade due to truancy.

We still argue, but know when to stop. Lots of tough love.
"When are you going to stop showing off in the gym and help me with this form?" "I'll review it when I get back and you've filled it out." Then we hug.

Thanks to those who gave me advice. Even those who told me to bale out meant to do good. They had no malice.

That's a great outcome, I'm glad it worked out for you and her.

Were I in your shoes I doubt I'd have had the strength to see that through.

great job on your part too... you should be proud of each other. :)

Great stuff...inspiring for those of us who have a hellatious teenager

good deal man! I remember your other threads. Pretty cool stuff. How's the rest of your family handling this now? I recall there was some tension there....

I remember when you first posted about this.....great to hear things coming together. you must be proud. obviously finding out about her had a positive impact on both your lives, and that's really rare from what you hear and read.

kids are always going to make mistakes, you can tell them a million times but until they go through it they won't really learn. what matters is they *do* learn once it happens. that's what separates success and growth from failure.

congratz lion and great job not giving up on your kid

imo we see this to much in this world and it often leads to things getting much worse for the kids ..dont really want to get to into details

for whatever its worth, i would have did the same exact thing u did

even if u had failed,it still would have been the right move

cant give up on your child

Daughter and I seem to get along very well now.
She completed Freshman year at WSU Med School with a 3.5.
Working full time at Outback Resturant this summer and doing well.
Bought her a clean used car to get around in.

We have boundaries and that seems to work. So did her getting older.
And getting rid of the low life boy friend, which she decided to do.
