I'm weighing several options right now, and one of them is going active and trying to get RIP in my contract, but I have a few questions first.

i know they send you to airborne school before sending you over to RIP, but I dont know what they do after you have completed RIP. do you automatically get sent to ranger school, or do they send you to a ranger bat, where you will have to wait around forever before being able to go to Ranger school.

also, since i am a medic, does that mean they will most likely make me be a ranger medic? if so, how long is the SOCM course, and how are medics treated in ranger bats? i heard if you arent a combat arms MOS, you arent shit in a lot of their eyes. is that true?

any other stories or advice about this subject would be totally appreciated

turns out three people i went to AIT already failed out of airborne....and they were all talking shit about how they were going to be rangers...

you know how they failed out? they couldnt pass their first PT test there....all you need is 60% in each category.

makes me sick. some of the most undeserving people get slots for schools.

he idea of failing Airborne school is bizarre. Just show up every day.

This was the basics when I was there; I was an officer so I never did RIP; there is a different program for officers entering regiment.

Anyway, if you pass RIP (depending on the strength and needs of ranger regiment, they make it harder) then you go to a ranger battalion. Once you are at battalion, you go to Ranger school when your team leader or squad leader decides you are ready. Typically e-3. You can't go very far without a tab in ranger battalion.

the 3-9 month holdover is not something I am familiar with; maybe has something to do with deployment schedules?

Now, as a medic, I don't exactly know what your options are. But if you have a tab and a scroll, you're a Ranger as far as anyone I ever met is concerned.

I've never met a medic in 75th that was looked down upon or treated different than anybody else. You shouldnt have anything to worry about. Good luck to you.

In the Ranger Batts. Medics and cooks rule the world my man....When I was in the 1st Batt. we had our own Ranger cooks, and before we went on a deployment, they made a super supper, and Matt is right, Airborne school is a breeze, RIP is mostly mental....the easy part is getting to a Batt. the hard part is....STAYING.
