Long break from lifting

Well it was not voluntary but I haven't been able to lift due to shoulder surgery for about a month now. I've only done cardio, stretching and very light phy therapy. Crazy thing is I don't think I've lost any size except in the arm/shoulder that I had surgery on because it has been immobile. All the little aches and pains I had in my elbow, knees, and back are all but gone. I am sure it will take me a while before my strength is back 100% but as I get older(I'm about to be 38 now) I wonder if it might not be beneficial to take a long(month or so) break from heavy duty lifting once a year or 2. I've gone as long as 10 years without any real extended break from lifting(maybe a week while on vacation). Anyone have any ideas on this?

I like to take a week or so every three months and do light training or just take 5 or 6 days off. I feel it keeps me from getting burned out as well as letting all the little aches and pain heal up.

I usually take a break once a year from nov-to the end of Dec.And I Eat anything & Everything!

I wished I could eat anything I wanted---with the limited workouts I really have to watch what I eat or I would really be sad once I could hit the gym full strength.

I was a rugby player in college and basically all my life, so I have alot of lingering injuries worst of all my shoulder. I take a week off liftin and even do light cardio like walkin on an incline treadmill 3 times a year. For me I find it very refreshing, I don't do it at an exact time I can usually feel when it's needed and I don't even care if I'm on cycle when it's time it's time. I wish I was like radar's mutant ass though and could eat whatever I wanted
