lol @ world record quarter squat

It's not a squat but it's impressive

Looked parrallel to me. I mean he is huge and when considering that with his stance he really dont have to move as far as a pencil neck geek. Kinda like a big dude on the bench.

Either way, fucking impressive to even want to get under that much weight.

this is true
they use such a wide stance to cut the distance down
the bottom of his ass just has to barely break parallel

I had a judge not give me the signal to lift from the down position on the bench for over three seconds. :) My bench is crap, I was like.."Thanks asshole." :)

that is pretty damn shitty

this kid that trained at my gym afew years ago (hes 25 now) got the record squat at 220# he hit 1036#...hes gona get stronger

so how far of a stance should you take on a squat.I see he is like almost doing s dame split and I would not like to go that far out,but I use a shoulder width apart as of right now ad I am wondering if its ok to go out further then that.cuz if I did I could add a lot more to my squat.

A competition squat will be wide stance with toes out, bringing in hip flexors as much as possible.

how wide....and when in relative to doing the squat to gain muscle whats the best stance.

I've seen guys almost touching the rack with their toes, my "comfort zone" was farther in.

That lift would not pass in any federation. I think he COULDN'T go down any lower because of that 2" thick canvas squat suit. It was so tight and stiff that he would have needed to relax to let the weight push him down. Once you loosen up on a heavy squat you are history. That weight would have crushed him if he relaxed.

I don't understand how someone can be a seasoned powerlifter and not have perfected their training enough that they can't reach the proper depth.

shit my toes dont came any were near the racks prop a foot away..I guess I could come out a bit further then..I don't go ass to the floor but pretty dame close.

For me it was about my "comfort zone." My squat and deadlift were always very good, it was my bench I needed help on.

He is very strong.

Regardless of the canvas suit and other crap, he is really strong.

Even though I always based parallel off top of thighs he is super fucking strong.

Even though I could probably add 150lbs to my raw squat using that technique and bottom of thigh register, he is stronger than any member on this board without gear on I am willing to bet.

Try rapping youself up and breaking +700lbs off the rack let alone that much weight. Your abs, obliques, your entire body clenches up. Chances are, many on this board or who have commented have never even felt 600lbs on their back or more let alone walked it out.

So ease up abit and give the guy a break?

i walk it out i walk it out i east side walk it out

Every fed has their own rules, I can live with that but that kind of squat makes the whole sport look ridiculous.

Kirk Karwoski shows how it should be done, and how deep is a real PL squat.

I've done quarter squats (3x3) with 680lbs, and I weigh 200lbs less than Miller.

you're going to have to show a video on that one........not doubting you bro, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt........but you did hate on a man who put 1200+ pounds on his back. So.........pic or video time...........let's see it!!

If you wouldn't doubt you wouldn't ask any videos. Sure I have a video for you from 1992.

As a PL referee I've judged way over 20K squats in the past 20 years, and where I come from that's not even a half squat. Check the Captain Kirk pic and you'll know what a PL squat is.

bro that's mike miller, a pl champion
lol at the amatuers here trying to call him out

Dude, any resonable PLer can do high GMs with 600+lbs, so it's neither rare nor impressive to rack up.

... Oh wait, this is a board of 2g/week wanna-be bodybuilders who use flies and curls as their primary exercises... never mind. :D

People know that suits don't do anything at the top of the lift, right? It's biggest function is assistance coming out of the hole.

LOL @ "relative to doing the squat to gain muscle". As if even a fraction of BBers have symmetric, developed hamstrings, lol.

that's exactly what i was about to say, Mike Miller is a Beast and at one point he was infact parallel with 1200 lbs on his back

I always give someone the benefit of the doubt..........and you're talking to someone who does think that plifting has become more about wearing the proper suit than man vs. weight. HOWEVER.........I'm in no way shape or form going to critisize a man with 1200 pounds on his back given that I, wearing the same suit......couldn't touch that. Now I agree, the pick of Kirk is impressive, and he is going low..........but is that even 1000 pounds?

Not quite but at least we can call it a squat. Mike would lift less if he had to squat that deep using same kind of lifting gear.

Well, you're talking to a guy who thinks that football has become more about wearing pads, helmets, and safety gear than tackling the living hell out of each other. None of those pro football players would be half the players they are now if they never wore helmets or pads. :D

Newsflash: Powerlifting is an established sport with it's own rules and regulations. The rules allow for this safety gear, so why the bloody hell would any powerlifter not use them? If someone doesn't like the rules of the sport, too fuggin' bad. Go bitch about soccer players wearing cleats or something.

And yes, Captain can squat well in excess of 1,000 lbs.

Have you seen the vid of him doing a double at 1,000 lbs? After the second rep he won't let the spotters rack it, he just keeps yelling "I want to feel it". The captain is also crazy, gotta love him.

Vids on youtube I can't look it up on this crappy work computer otherwise I'd post a link.

They use the wide stance to involve the hips and glutes more.

If it's a valid squat in his federation then that's what he trained for. The different feds seem to have different ideas of what constitutes parallel. I think they do it just so that they can laugh at each other.

He could have done with a stronger bar.
