I love Dr. Laura. I also know her people so bragging about any exploits here for illegal activity is going to get you... well, she's pretty overboard on suing folks for stuff that I would let pass. I figure she just has a huge retainer fee for her lawyer and wants to get her money's worth.
I've probably listened to her more than anyone else. I think several years straight, 3 hours a day at work, right after Laura Ingraham and Rush are done brain washing me and right before Phil Hendrie (I use to listen to a lot of talk at work). I've probably been listening to her since 1995, maybe longer.
Some questions need answers.
1) She seems not to listen to people's questions?
Well, part of it is because you don't need to hear the question to know what the problem is. The other part is that the calls are screened and before she takes them she sees a whole biography of the situation on the screen in front of her. I guess she sometimes skips to the meat of the story.
2) Not a real Dr. ?
It wasn't until the last few years that there ever actually was a Dr. of psychology offered anywhere - the highest degree you could get a masters and then a professional certification. She does has a PhD in physiology. She's also a liscenced family counselor who was in private practice for years.
3) She has NUDE PICS!!
Part of the value of her advice is that she has made a lot of mistakes herself and has learned from them. Kind of like that Star Trek episode where Picard goes back in time and avoids personal mistakes (the mistakes that made the 'tapestry' of his character) and turned out to be a lowly medical officer rather than a Captain.
4) She is SO MEAN!!
I don't think anyone calls into Dr. Laura not expecting exactly what they get. I think they really need it. I think the natural reaction among someone's friends is just to comfort them and not to try and set them straight or give them backbone to do the right thing.
5) You're a nut.
I'm also the only person here who has a right to have a grudge against Dr. Laura. She had a history bee on her radio show once to prove that people my age didn't know history. I won the contest but she screwed me out of a victory on air by saying my right answer to the final question was wrong (WW2 ended in 1945, not 46 as she claimed). She also gave the woman she wanted to have win (someone *her* age) an incredibly long amount of time to answer an easy question (who is on Mt. Rushmore).
So inspite of being made to look the fool infront of 10+ million people, I still got her back.
BTW - I know she's mega rich, so it has to be a pretty nice house. I am guessing your house must be pretty nice too.
