Key to big lifts, revealed by ME...The Man Child

I used to go through my training sessions like 99% of you guys still do today. I was infatuated by EliteFitness and one day I dreamed of becoming a bodybuilder. I realized that even at 6'4'' 285lb. with 13% bodyfat, that I just didn't have the genetics to make it big time.

To put it quite simply my workouts were soft. Sure I lifted with max intensity, but I wasn't training my body to get stronger. And you can't get true muscle maturity without lifting HEAVY poundages.

Recently, over the past two and a half months, I discovered the power of Grip Training and the book Dinosaur Training. My lifting has forever changed and my lifts are at an all time high. Until this past weekend I've been natural for over a year and my lifts are better than ever.

More on Grip:

All of my lifts are up do to my increased focus on gripping and hand strength. From my bench press to hang clean, barbell row and deadlift. I neglected one of the most important muscles on the human body.

Dinosaur Training:

Name given to hardcore lifting by Brooks Kubic. Basically teaches you the importance of Functional Strength and Core lifting.

Today my lifting is strickly, Squatting, Pressing, Cleans, Grip (farmers walk, pinch grip, crushing grip), and torso/abs.

The main problem with today's trainers is that they focus entirely too much on isolation movements (I WAS guilty of this myself). Stick to heavy lifts that involve multiple joints ie: squat

You guys don't have to listen to my advice. When I first heard about this training my reaction was like this, "no way will that work, what about the pump, etc...)" Well I've gained about 7lb. in two months all natural. Take it from me, this training works!

Check out Ironmind.com for more information on Dinosaur Training...

BTW: I have no connection to that website, just think its fantastic if you're are truly serious about getting stronger and developing your full potential...

Thanks

Nautica, I'm training for myself. Sure I play football at very high level, but I also have a drive inside of me to be the strongest that 'I' can be.

There's plenty of validity in your statements. If more people trained naturally in this style rather than using all the isolation exercises and machines - there would be a lot less 160lbs. guys turning to roids because they hit a plateau on the cybex circuit.

I like to apply the following rule of thumb - if the bench is a 'big' exercise and really gets you sweating, your workout is most likely shit. Nothing compares to deads, cleans, squats, and overhead work to stimulate growth and really give the body a workout - no one does these heavy without pouring buckets. I used to love bench day cause I could lay down and hardly break a sweat no matter how hard I worked.

Madcow, my point exactly! There's a reason you see little shits running around the gym these days. HELLO, would you people wake up, get off the machines and pick up a barbell. Nothing beats the "old fashion" way of lifting. There's no reason a 300lb bench, 400lb. squat and 500lb. deadlift isn't within reach for a natural weight lifter. Only problem is, guys these days aren't willing to work for it. This really pisses me off too, if you couldn't already tell. And the main reason is because I used to be on the other side of the coin, but I realized there was greener grass on the other side and am kicking ass in my lifting.

Well yes more dudes should stop doing isolation exercises and start on squats, deadlifts, cleans, etc. However, with my frame it would be very very very hard for me to bench 300, squat 400 and deadlift 500. I've been dedicated to lifting since I was 14 and my bench NEVER went over 215 for one. I just could not do it. Even with the extra calories and creatine etc. And I trained 4 days a week. Sometimes I would cut it down to 3 or 2 days a week. Sometimes go light sometimes go heavy. No type of program helped(bench wasn't my only plateu though).

However, I doooo understand(and I know a TON of dudes like this) that have only lifted for about a month and complain about not getting big enough so they start taking juice . I hate those guys too. But u gotta understand that not all people can make big lifts naturally.

I totally agree, When I first started lifting the best advice I got was to do Squats, Dead lift and Bench and do them hard. Machines I always found to be a waste of time. plus there is nothing like putting up 350 on your squat or dead lifting 400 and having someone tell you good job :D I know what Charles ray is saying though I never EVER got past 235 on my bench and I tried the creatine and every thing I just couldnt do it.

Sorry my ignorance but some exercises have some different names in english (i speak portuguese) so i want to know what is cleans.
www.ast-ss.com has some exercises execution but they don't have cleans there. if somebody knows where i can find it i would be thankful.
