Just when you think the human race is beyond repair..

There was a guy holding a cardboard sign on the corner by a stop light near the gas station asking for money. Tons of people were just driving by...So I pulled into the station as he was getting ready to leave and told him to come over here. I asked him what he needed money for, and he points over to this old piece of crap minivan w/4 lil kids that were filthy. he says, "one of my kids got severely burned, and there is a doctor and in Denver, CO that is going to take care of him free of charge, and they are also giving us a check for $5000 to help my family get back on thier feet, and all I have to do is make it to Denver, but I don't have enough money for gas to make it the rest of the way."

Now this guy has just traveled half way across the country, his family is filthy and you can tell they haven't bathed in many days. I walk over to his van, swipe my card through the gas pump, and tell him to fill it up. He's so happy he can't thank me enough.

I'm about to leave, and for some reason I go back...and give him $20 in cash (all that I had in my wallet) and tell him to go get something to eat. He was so gracious that he was going to be able to feed his children.

You pass people on the street all the time not knowing their story, and assuming they're beggers. It's amazing what you hear if you take the time to really find out, and it feels wonderful to help.

You sound like a super sweet guy, and a wonderful person for doing that, but I have a feeling you got scammed.

Do you think it's an insult to give a homeless person 35 cents if you have some 5's on your pocket?

someone once told me its not the gift, or even the person your giving it to that's important. It is what's in your heart while your giving that God cares about.

maybe I did...maybe he got a free tank of gas. I'm fine with that, but I honestly believe his story. The look in his eye, and the ones on his children's face.

Worst case scenerio I got ripped off, but atleast those kids got some food in their bellys.

Someone i Know wanted to give a homeless guy (he was in bad shape) 35 cents and I wanted to give him a 5 or 10.
I just thought it was super rude to give the dude 35 cents when we're dressed great and driving a nice car.

maybe...but even 35 cents probably made that guys day.

However...I normally don't give people on the street money. I'd rather go and buy them a sandwhich, a cup of soup...something I know will help them.

I left this cute waiter who waiting on practically the whole damn restaurant a $200 tip the other day because that kind of work has to freaking suck. Other than that nothing.
