Dude, EVERYONE who went there in uniform and was in Iraqi territory -- whether they're military, surveillence, nurse, doctor, maintenance, etc. IS A HERO!

End of story. I don't know why you're thinking the others AREN'T heroes? EVERYONE who went to Iraq IMHO is a hero. Just because you die or survive doesn't make you any less or more of a hero. She's a hero too. But we're celebrating her, cuz of her ordeal of being captured. That mental torture and anguish of being a POW is horrible no matter what your rank or duty.

But the difference is that many of them get no coverage at all....That was the question...why is she getting all the hoopla and others get shit?
Play boy material , maybe?? YES...
Wouls she make a good story for a book or for a moive? YES.

Hope you get the big picture, dude..

She got rewarded for being caught...

Chill out lover boy!

Cas,

If you want to read an amazing story about a superhuman sniper, check this out.

I have read the book and it's amazing what this guy could do.

Hell yeah. I read that a few years ago, actually. He got burned very severely while trying to save some people from a burning military vehicle, didn't he? And had something like 93 confirmed kills?

Shot a vietnamese kid (that was shooting at him with an AK) from 2500 yards away with a Browning .50 cal.

Good book.

I don't think people would be making such a fuss if it was a dude or a butt ugly chunky chick.

He/she wouldnt make an atractive story ...When she first was captured there were all those media stories as to how bravely she fought and she even got into a a hand to hand combat, etc..

So, the tension and the sory line was created....

What pisses me off the most is all the coverage and the attention that she gets, whereas those who bravely fought and some have even died get no shit at all..

Those snipers in Somalia were the epitmoy of heroism....REAL HEROES..not media home-made heroes.

Yep.

He was riding on a transport when it was hit and he was burned badly.

He was a very good sniper and many times was called "superhuman" as he could stay out in the bush for extended periods of time and snipe fools like there was no tomorrow.

He was being tracked by an equally good VC sniper that actually had Carlos sited and was about to shoot him. Carlos caught a glint of light off his scope and put a bullet through the guys eye and head. The bullet passed straight through the opposing sniper's scope.

Great read.

Dude, she fought bravely untill she was out of ammo, then she got shot, and she must have gotten into some hand-to-hand too because she got stabbed and suffered broken bones. If thats not heroic, than nothing is.

What book are you reading???

Carlos Hathcock was an awesome sniper. He was severly burned when a military vehicle took a path that was booby trapped. Hathcock never took the same route twice b/c routines led to ambushes and booby traps.

The kid he picked off from 2500m was carrying AK's on a bicycle. He shot the bike at first. The kid got up and started collecting the AK's. Hathcock decided if he didn't kill the kid, then that kid would help kill Marines.

The book Marine Sniper is a great read. I finished it in 2 days. Couldn't put it down.
