like the fake kisses are the only people that seem to get ahead in life? A lot of BS two faced people seem to get ahead at work etc but yeah solid contributors hard workers people truly leading by example don't get shit. I seen that happen at a lot of place not just work clubs etc....

me being laid off from work two days ago says something...I didnt kiss ass like my collegue who was doing a much worse job and playin with his dick all day....I know EXACTLY what you're feeling!

Bad bor material.

Anyone taking the initiative to turn to plastic surgery to address something they want changed should be commended. Taking care of yourself (like SQ obviously does) and then using surgery strategically (as she obviously has) should be appreciated.

Plunkey finally someone that will be intelligant and not talk about my boobs. Your a business man so your telling me that because someone plays basketball with the manager they shouldn't get ahead? Especially when there key stats sales and other work measurments are not equal to the other caniditates? Funny cause I was thinking the samething but apparently I was wrong. I was told I was just not ready yet another peer was told he didn't want it bad enough seriously this was our feedback from a dirtector of a 200 people sales orginzation.

I've always found that people in sales seemed fake....not in their personal lives, but professionally, it seems like the way things work.......

I worked as a asst. manager for a retail store in undergrad and kissing ass was a way of life for many of my colleages... Makes me thankful that was a temp gig for me. I dont know much about sales management, but every single pharmaceutical or surgical supply rep I've ever met was SOOOOO FAKE that it makes me sick sometimes. Incredibly good looking people who just kiss ass like crazy, but I guess that's what moves product. Have you ever worked in a different industry?

I have pretty much been in corprate IT sales my whole career 6 years.

I am in education and it is the exact opposite. It's the person who bitches the most, who receives the most attention. Districts don't like "pot stirrers", then you got the unions yada yada yada.

yep, seems I offend. Well. join the thousands out there. Jump in line to pounce me (good luck) and I must say if those are new boobs in Avatar then you didn't go overboard, which is cool. I must say, I kinda think they still look real.... My needle was my cawk, and me bringing God in it might have offended but God did intend us to get a nut. Are you saying someone was ahead of their peers in key sales stats but got held back because of an athletic relationship with a manager? Or did playing basketball with them help?

Sorry, just a little confused.

And just a little personal experience here. I've always supported people wanting to lose weight and get in better shape, so we'd encourage people to workout during lunch. Well of course people starting seeing lunchtime workouts as an opportunity to get "air time" with the directors of the company. As long as the directors realize what's going on and don't act on biases that can develop from these non-work interactions everything should be fine -- its just really difficult to keep them separate.

I am saying that a number of other applicants were ahead of someone recently promoted to sales manager in our companies key stats such as sales, calls, call time (which is a very big push right now) and web hits. These are stats all sales are measured on. I took a look at the recently promoted individual last 3 months sales vs. mine and another very good applicant. Myself and the other person were both ahead of him he has been here a year less so I took a look at my sales from a year ago at this time I crushed him and I believe so did the other candidate did as well. I am trying to see reason why does he kiss more ass? Yes from what I have seen he does. Does he spend more time outside of the office with other management and the director yes he plays basketball with them every week. Is that what is holding me and others back?
There is so much more I mean my manager was like analyze why you were beat out so I did. The last time I was beat out for the role I was not nearly as upset as I could see reasoning on why the other manager was picked. Now I just don’t see why not only upset for myself but the other applicants we used to get full on documented feedback with this is your score here etc etc see where you can improve this was before I started applying for management as my manager should me his first score card he got turned down twice before he got it. I am just extremely frustrated and it is very de motivating for me in general. I really want to bring back my love for this job and the company but it just seem to get progressively harder.

I just hate the ass kissing , brown nosing people in every level of life..They can be more problematic to everyone down the road. By running a family business Ive seen a lot of ass kissing from employees.. employees bringing us lunch & cookies to offering sexual favors.. But when it comes to pay and status level with in the company, performance and attitude has always played the role. We always do the right thing.. It's unfortunate that some business owners and/or upper management don't see it or just plain like the attention.. oh! one more thing, YOUR AVATAR ROCKES :p
 
Brown nosers/fakes are only as powerful as the people that are energized from the brown nosing.
If a manager feels small, he needs the adoration of the fakes.
Any manager worth his weight in salt will not even give a moment to a brown noser/fake
 
Superqt...it sucks, but that's the way it goes in most businesses. People develop friendships on golf courses, ect...and it's only natural to want to promote a friend over an associate.

Maybe you should get in on that basketball game. Even if you can't hit a bucket to save your life, the sight of you rebounding and taking jumpers would win you some points for sure! :p

QT - sounds to me like perhaps it is time for you to see what else is out there. Once an employee is unhappy they generally tend to become less productive and a negative roundee round is begun (as you have already atested to). No need to get down about what is going on around you. Just take it as a sign that perhaps you have outgrown the company? Put some feelers out. I am thinking that you would probably be pleasantly surprized at how valuable you are in the work world so why not take a look around?

As for ass-kissing; any manager who can't see what is what is a dope pure and simple and goodness knows I've experienced my fair share of this situation. Who hasn't?

I never ever socialized with those that I managed as I never knew when I would have to fire them. If I developed a personal relationship w/them then this would make me less effective management. I mase no bones about letting my entire staff know that I was not there to make friends. I was there to make money. I could care less if they loved me or hated me, bottom line was I was there to help them excell. If they were incapable or unwilling to let me help them then they shouldn't let the door hit them in the ass on the way out. :) ...worked out exceptionally well for EVERYONE in my department.

Thanks yes I have actually put my feelers out to see what is out there. It could be a blessing as every time I have moved companies I have moved up in both pay so I do see my value. I just find it very hard leaving as for so long I was so sure this is where I was suppose to be and I would be the most successful here.

I don't necessarily agree. Production based business where leads are provided has people that will kiss ass for the better or fresher leads. When it comes to the sales aspect, I've seen so many people that aren't upfront and just kiss up to their customers and tell them what they want to hear. Then they change everything at the end and play it off on everyone else. I can't tell you how many mid 6-figure assholes I know that did that.

Change is a good thing. You've outgrown the company. Think of that as a POSITIVE change as this is something that you never thought you could accomplish (or even thought you would WANT to). ;)

It sucks when it happens, but is sure does happen. Anytime a manager interacts with someone they manage outside of work it creates a bond that makes it more difficult to be objective about that person. But it can work in reverse too -- I remember a guy from Vanderbilt that I would never like or trust professionally because he was the worst lopsided foul-caller on the planet!

Do be careful about sales to sales manager promotions. Old school thinking was you took the best sales person and promoted them to sales manager. Usually this person became the "super salesperson" for the entire area and didn't spend enough time managing. Newer thinking says you hire a good salesperson, but a great manager to be a sales manager -- and those skill sets are often different. Obviously a sales manager who can't garner the respect of other salespeople will fail. But a sales manager who doesn't understand hiring and firing and who doesn't understand the managerial functions of the roll fails as well. Don't get me wrong either. I have no idea how you or your other peer stacked-up to the ass-kisser in terms of management skills, but do consider that the company may have used a slightly different measuring stick other than sheer sales performance.

And one other question... is sales manager that hot of a job in your company? In a lot of companies it's a license to babysit. You may also find yourself trading pure commission-based work as a sales rep for a more obscure compensation system that has caps as a manager.
