Insulin question for experienced users

I'm about to do my first Insulin injection. I have all the necessary carbs, supps, etc on hand for immediately after injection.

My question is this. Someone told me to "waste" 1iu before each injection. In other words, turn the setting to 1 and push out one iu before injection. Then set it to your setting (2ius in my case) and then pinch the injection site and press the pen and hold for 30 seconds. I was told to do this so as not to have any air in the injection. I've always pushed all air out of AS injections, but for some reason I didn't think it was necessary for Insulin pens.???

o.k.....i posted this yesterday morning and not one response.

maybe i should have titled the thread "i dropped my vial in the toilet while injecting, is it still good?" or some stupid shit like that.

well i'm bumping this up for the night crew hoping that the experience and i.q. level are higher than the morning dumbfucks.

Yes, shoot 1-2iu through the pen first. I am diabetic and use a pen 6x daily, and sometimes air get's in and it takes a couple units before you get to the slin. Especially with your dose you want to make sure 1iu of that isn't air. Also, make sure you don't pull the pen out immediately after your shot. Hold it in for at least 5-10seconds bacause the slin will continue to drip out for a few secs...
