anyhow, can I install second hand OS?

which product key would you enter when installing? the one on your system or the disk?

btw, when I type it's all fucked up and letters are jumping all over the place

some setting is way off

Use the key on the CD.

But if it's borrowed, and that key has been used on someone else's sytem, it won't go through.

I'm hoping it's a builders disk from an IT dept or not activated
My buddy is getting it from his work

downloaded touchfreeze and it handled the jumping cursor thing fine

Partition your HD.
Get an EOM system builder's disk and install it fresh in the empty partition.
You should be able to dual boot no problem.

Nice bro

The new server is badass

:) Thanx :)

I didn't install the server or format the HD. But I take great pride in knowing my hard work helped fund its purchase and setup. :)

So Install the xp pro disc, everything went good.

Problem is this HP is set up for "Media Center" version

and I have no volume, can't go in and set them. It says I have no speakers, in which the laptop does. So I can't even watch youtube

FVCK!

Hmm...

Sounds like you need to update your drivers. If your comp can't find hardware that is clearly there it may be the drivers just not being properly installed.
Go to the manufacturer's website and using your model number get yourself a fresh download of the current drivers you need for your hardware profile. Every manufacturer offers the drivers free for download... Who knows, maybe if your rig is old, you might find some newly updated drivers that will make everything work much better.

Now that you have it all set up and working, have you been to Windows Update and installed all the security patches?

SP3 is a must!

sp3 fucked with me man

SP3 is the Shiznit for the newer hardware... I'm running a Quad Core and I needs the SP3 to take advantage of them corez.

Drivers man.

Go to the HP support site and download them all for your laptop model. After you reformatted you have to install all of them again.

BEFORE getting the latest SP go to Start-all programs-accesories-tools-system restore and create a restore point, that way if it messes up you knowwhere to roll back to :)
SP3 makes AMD go nuts, hope you have an intel.....

Ditto.

Not ALL AMD go bonkers but I can tell you that they day it was released we had a SHIT load of calls of AMD platforms we sell all with the same no boot issue, most were resolved, very few but some had to reinstall OS, PLEASE make the restore point just in case.....

I agree with setting up a restoration protocol for any major changes to your machine.

I usually opt for physically cloning my HD before making changes.
