I just took 1 full gram of ALA before lunch, and I ate an ENTIRE papa johns pizza (Hey shut up, I am bulking), and I still ended up HYPOGLYCEMIC! This stuff rocks.

i've been taking ala for a little over a month now, and I love it, but I have a question about it. If you take ala, then eat a bunch of carbs, then find that you're hypoglycemic after you ate the carbs, does that mean that the carbs you ate are already used up by your body and won't go towards gaining fat?
 
Thats sure as hell how I am interpereting it! I interperet it as meaning the nutrients were shuttled to my tissue.. which means I may have just rapidly stored some fat too, but mostly muscle.



Everyone, I want to hear about anyone who is taking serious doses of ala.

I find that 300mg of ALA per 50g of carbs works real good..
 
i've been using ala for a few weeks now -- 300mg caps X3 not timed with carb intake, just first thing in the morning and i'm loosing body fat very well! i hate seeing the pounds go down though. i worked hard to get to 200# but my B.F. was 13.2%. two weeks later i'm 196# at 10.8% B.F. of course i've been eating really clean -- 1.5-2gm protein per pound and carbs just after workout, never before bed.

only thing is... it makes my piss smell really weird:confused: anyone else notice that?

my piss may smell weird but my shit don't stink.:D LOL
 
That's weird. I read a post a few weeks ago regarding ALA being used as an alternative to Milk Thistle. What does ALA have to do with carbs?

ALA is really good. Excellent for liver aswell. Just curious if any of you have had really strong smelling piss, after taking ALA??
 
yea the smell is pretty horrible. Just like asparagus fom what I've been told. I read somewhere in the archives that only people with a certain gene can actually smell it. If you can't consider yourself lucky b/c it's nasty

My diet sucks. I eat clean all day, but at night I take seroquil for sleep, it sends me into a night time feeding frenzy. Since I am at my girl's most of the time, I eat all kinds of shit. she is 110# and never gains weight. she keeps homeade cheesecake, cook=ies, ice cream, pizza anyways, i take 1200 mgs ALA, eat like shit 3-4 days a week, no cardio, still losing body fat :) The only thing right about my diet is I eat 3-400 grams protien a day, all from non supplement sources...(steak,chicken turkey, egg whites, yogurt)

Anyway.. I'd love to hear anything else about peoples ALA experiences.. more actual results rather then theory.. the theory sounds slamming, now just time to see if the proof is in the pudding..


Does anyone know about any risk in taking 2g+ ALA a day?

I know the lethal dose is 30g, but I don't want to have some unnatural buildup that could be harmful (Like taking too much of a fat soluble vitamin). I hear it is fat + water soluble?

Does that mean its safe?

I wanna hear more on safety.. I might go up to 5g a day.

Since reading "Macro's" Ginger Root Thread, I started taking ginger caps (made my own) just prior to a big protein drink - farts have just about disapeared....

On the ALA, My wife actually thought there was a sewer leak in our bathroom when she walked in just after me talking a smelly piss.:D
 
Haha.. I've been pissing and not flushing all day because I don't have "the gene".. I wanna see how my roomates react.. call it an experiment..

Twitched- I posted a thread a couple of days ago on Fonz' bit. I am still learning how to navigate on this site, so I lose shit.
I started ALA on march 9 @ 2:30 pm with 700mg. had a myoplex bar w/it . following that I went up to 800mgs with meal. That day I took a total of 2400mgs. mar 10 went to 800mgs per meal.
FUCK me running- later on I felt like I was "on". I felt so good-my workout was crazy I was hard, pumped, intense and not fatigued as usual. my mind became very clear in thought and focus. I feel great after I eat- dont get sleepy- good digestion also. I stay slightly pumped on this stuff all the time , for now. I am pushing 3000mgs each day. right now this is working. I am pissing like a fucking race horse. last night I was up 5 times- that I dont like. my body weight is 235lb @ 5-11 approx 12%bf there is probably more I havent told you , but I have to go now- this stuff is awesome I will stay @ this dosage until there is a change- I know more about this product but I cant type and I am out of time I'll be back:teleport:

Seriously, though, try smelling ALA capsules still ni the bottle. They smell just like BO.

I dont care how it makes my piss smell, but ALA powder is some of the most rancid tasting shit I've ever experienced. I know you can get (or make) capsules but its easier to get a decent dose (2-3g a day) with the powder. Anyone have any tricks for hiding the taste and afterburn?!

I read of someone mixing it in his protein shakes.... still he said he could taste it... experiment with it.
 
Maybe I'm fucked up but when I mixed ala with my chocolate protein shake, it tasted like I had a peanut butter chocolate shake. My girlfriend said the same thing so I know it's not just me. Hell maybe we're both fucked up:twirl:

I realize that the powder is the just the same without the caps but are you noticing gains or feeling the affects of ALA in powder form? I am just wondering, since I have only seen one place selling the powder and curious as to the potency of it.

Hopefully it isn't too miraculous or else "big brother" will find some excuse to make it illegal!!!
 
Some notes.

ALA is great, but not an excuse or allowance to eat like crap. It boosts insulin sensitivity, allowing your muscles to fill up more than usual ... before excess glucose (?) is coverted to fat.

Actually it boots the sensitivty of your whole body to its insulin response, but since your muscles will always be filled preferentially before any excess is spilled over into making fat, ....... for a GIVEN intake of carbn then, you will get MORE going towards muscles and LESS towards fat.

Meaning, eat the same as before WITH ALA, get more going into muscle and less into fat.

But if all of a sudfden you start eating like a dumbass and slamming down carbs and fat and generally let your diet tyurn to shit, you will get some fat.



On the powder....

Man, when I read about the powdered ALA having a "burning" taste I figurd "big deal". But this is nasty. Its not as much that it TASTES like burning, it just BURNS, as in like an ACID (duh - LOL). Surprised me a lot and very unpleasant (yech!). I wont buy powder again unless I get one of those capsule-making things.

On the pissing .....

yes a lot of guys report a funny smell.

I'm a little guy 5'6" so I'm wondering what the dosages are per bodyweight, like a general guideline. Anyone have any idea? Also it would seem to me that cycling ala on and off might be a good idea, any opinions on this?

I got the powder ALA. Go spoon the dried acid off an old car battery, mix it with water and drink it. That's about what it's like. But what the hell, it's cheap and so am I.

I keep mine in the freezer to keep it fresh.

By the way, I do have the ALA piss, and yes I can smell it. What can I say, I'm just a freak of nature.
