Inclines with bands...

Inclines with bands...are EXCITING...to say the lest.

We did overheads then Cheese decided that we should use 2 sets of double mini bands on inclines...WOW!!!

They were FAST too. It wasn't hard off the chest...but got hard QUICK. The last 3" was hard for sure.

I got a freaky chest pump as well...and my upper chest was/is fried...just something for the bodybuilders to think about. I still think that bands can be VERY useful for bodybuilders...

I got to get some of those for X-mas.....Im thinking pushups with bands would make for a good poly workout.

dude......... thats some sick band tension. i think i would have broke ribs unracking 135.....lol

How much weight does that feel like, with the bands on there?

I honestly don't know. I know that I am now stronger on inclines than I was a month ago...and I haven't gone heavy in a month or more on them.

In theory...when they are doubled they add around 60 pounds each. With 2 bands...that is 240 pounds at the top.

With 135 on the bar...it felt about like 185 or so with no bands (EDITED TO ADD...'at the bottom it felt like 185).
Add 240 to the 135 and you have 375 at the top.

My heaviest set was 185 x 4...but I wouldn't say that it was like doing 425...lol. The most I've ever done with no bands is 365 but that was probably 2-3 months ago. I think I'm closer to 405 now as it is.

The bands force you to move QUICKLY. It actually tends to help me a lot when I put the bands on there...makes me use my reversal speed. The last 3-4" was no joke though...I probably spent twice the time on the last 6" than I did through the entire rest of the reps.

Just wanted to add that the 185 x 4 plus the two mini bands per side...was much harder than the 315 x 5 I did a few months ago...MUCH.

inclines RULE!

i like the idea of bands, but i think i would like a spotter with me, especially the first few times

i think i will be looking into adding bands/chains to my arsenal
(i just like the thought of chains, more hardcore)

I suggest bands. MUCH cheaper...more uses. MUCH more uses.

I want to try that, but I would need to lower my safety pins. I guess I could roll the bar down if I failed a lift.

I just attach the bands to the floor. That way I still have my safety rails.

However, if I ever decide to double the bands, I will have to come up with a new solution.

That's cool, I thought attaching to the floor would be too far for the bands to stretch on inclines. I'll have to try it out.

No reason to go so heavy that you miss. IF you miss...you end up missing with like 135 on the bar at the bottom when the bands release. No biggie.

I wouldn't stretch those mini bands any farther than they have to go...

when my crew does inclines with bands we set a pin in the hole that is like 6-8 inches off the ground, and double them up from there. turns out to be an arse load of tension at the top :D

I tried those tonight. I love 'em!

Feels so heavy when you unrack.

From what I have read on Jumpstretch.com, the bands resistance is based on them stretched to 6ft. From the floor to the top of my lift, I don't think is more than 4.5 - 5ft.

Like I said though, if I ever need to double them, I will have to come up with a new idea.

Whoa...pretty cool. Didn't know that you guys did these...wow. You guys use a lot of weight on them? Reps? Singles?

I really think that the use of bands could still be a good thing for bodybuilders...because the bands provide a forced negative on every rep...

i think they may help me alot, i'm guessing there is more mind-muscle connection to control it

this is a dumb question, but were can i get some decent bands
galyan's didn't have shizzle

Bands sound awesome!

I must confess I don't know much about them, but the applications seem promising.

A question: can you add small increments of band resistance, or is that best served by just adding weight to the bar (until of course you reach the next "band")?

you can add more bands, but i dont recommend it that often. the main reason being, that a great amount of band tension will pretty much beat the crap out of you. some people can handle lots of bands, and other cannot.

if your benching start with one mini-band per side, later move onto to one doubled mini band per side.

if your squatting start with the light(purple) band, and move onto the medium(green) band, their are also the strong(blue) band, and monster(black) bands, but the blue band will most likely be too much tension for somone who has never used them before. and the monster band is just about too much for everyone lol.

I agree. I believe that it can cause a lot of muscle atrophy (if that is the right word) which is a very good thing for bodybuilders. It also forces you to be VERY explosive on the positive portion of the movement...which is good for athletes.

Once I can get my own training quarters. . I will certainly start performing inclines with bands. . this had me intrigued big time!

Bands are also a great way to save money while putting together a home gym. They can do the same, and sometimes better, job than more expensive pieces of equipment.

Power cage, bands and chains are the bare essentials for all you really need. (Weight set and bar are a given.)

I get really excited when I think about this:p :p

I have the equipment. . just nowhere to set up:mad: .

A cage is essential for heavy duty training!!

You know, I was thinking about this the other day. If I didn't have the house and garage I have now, where would I set up my equipment?

I think I would probably get a storage unit. The ones that are about the same size as a one car garage? Set it all up in there.

Don't know if that is an option for you, but it just was crossing my mind.

Anyone ever try incline dumbbell pressing with bands??

Actually, I just tried that this week on DE Upper.

I took the idea from Tommy Fannons site. He has a video of him doing them.

The way I did them, I grabbed one end of the band and looped around my thumb, ran the rest of the band around my back and grabbed the other loop with my other thumb. Then just did normal flat DB presses.
Be the same with inclines, I would imagine.

Joker,

I will probably be relocating (to a different state) somewhere in the next few months and I will be looking for a place with a basement. The storage facility is a great idea.

Oh man, what I wouldn't give for a basement.......:D

Good luck on getting one. That is my ideal gym space.:)

For bench press...I just put a heavy dbell on the floor and use it to hold the bands down. I used the light bands on the bench on Thursday and they would pick up the 100's off of the floor...so I had to use some 45's to hold it down as well.
